  • References

Agencies and/or employment businesses are required to obtain two references when supplying or introducing tutors where they will work with vulnerable persons. ('Vulnerable person' means any person who by reason of age, infirmity, illness, disability, or any other circumstance is in need of care or attention and includes any person under the age of 18.). Please give the name and address of 2 PROFESSIONAL/EMPLOYER referees. One of these should be your most recent or current employer. Please note that references will not be accepted from relatives or from people writing solely in the capacity of friends. Please be aware referees will be asked by us about disciplinary offences relating to children and whether you have been the subject of any child protection concerns, and if so, the outcome of any enquiry or disciplinary procedure. Please do not give agencies as referees as they are unable to provide a proper reference.
  • DBS

We carry out regular DBS checks on all tutors as part of our safer recruitment policies and procedures. All tutors are required to have a Child Workforce Enhanced DBS Certificate, complete with Children's Barred List Information, which is registered on the GOV.UK DBS Update Service. We ask all tutors to register with the Qualified Tutor Daily DBS Service once onboard with us. We are not able to register any tutors who are unwilling to complete this process.

  • Safeguarding, Prevent & First Aid Training

We ask all tutors to have up to date Safeguarding and Prevent Training. We can provide access to training for you if you do not have current certificates (usually dated within the last three years). We are also starting to provide paediatric first aid training for tutors where this is beneficial.

  • Emergency Details and Medical Information

In case of emergency, we would like to ensure all those working with Home-School Tutoring Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire have had the opportunity to disclose emergency medical information, which could include details about allergies, chronic conditions, medications they need to take, and emergency contact details, allowing HST to provide appropriate care in case of a medical emergency while working with us. We will process, store the information in line with our Privacy Policy and only share where deemed necessary.
  • Further Information:

(If the answer is YES to any of the following questions, please contact us and let us know in confidence. Dependent on its nature, a criminal record doesn’t necessarily prevent your registration as a tutor with us). Any police record does show up on a DBS check but we know that often some of these are long in the past and would not prevent you being a tutor with us. We do however need to know, in order to comply with Child Protection procedures and with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (exempt) Amendment Order 1986.
  • Registration Consent

Once we receive your form and documents, we will carry out relevant checks and processes to ensure your suitability for the role of tutor. You will be contacted in due course to have an informal chat with the team and provided access to information about how we work. All members of the HST Admin Team are ICO registered and your information will be treated in confidence.
