ADOPTING GROUP AGREES TO:
• Conduct a minimum of one litter cleanup every season (four per year) and submit
a report (within a week) after each cleanup.
• Inform all participants of safety measures prior to a cleanup.
• Be responsible for cleanup equipment signed out.
• Notify Litter Control Coordinator if your group terminates the cleanup;
• Each person participating in any cleanup activity related to the City’s Adoption
Program does so at his or her own risk and the City of Suffolk, its employees,
agents, and officials shall not be responsible or liable for property damage or
personal injury resulting from such participation. The applicant shall so advise all
participants of the foregoing conditions.
• An adult must supervise group members less than 18 years of age.
• This Agreement may be terminated by the City of Suffolk at any time the
applicant does not comply with this Agreement or at any time the applicant’s work
effort is considered unsafe. The City reserves the right to revise or discontinue
this program at any time.
• NOTIFICATION: It will be the responsibility of the adopting group to notify the
Litter Control Office of any changes within their group as it affects their adoption
(i.e. changes in contact person, phone number, address, e-mail, etc.)
THE CITY AGREES TO:
Provide bags, safety vests, litter grabbers and trash pick-up.
Recognize Adopting Group on social media and in other forms of City
communications with the permission of the Adopting Group Representative.
Recognition signage will be installed for Adopting Groups who extend their
adoption beyond two years. Must have completed a minimum of 8 cleanups
during that time.
Provide guidance to adopting groups in selecting appropriate locations, dates,
and times for clean up, giving consideration to seasonal mowing patterns, traffic
volumes, weather conditions, etc.
Maintain records of group clean up results.
Provide Certificates of Appreciation.
ASSUMPTION OF THE RISK
I hereby confirm that I am aware that participation in the Adopt Program is a potentially hazardous activity in which I could be injured as the result of my own actions; or the actions or inactions of other participants; or the actions or inactions of the organizers or the City of Suffolk and/or its employees; or conditions of the event whether they are naturally occurring or the result of the actions or inactions of the organizers or the City of Suffolk and/or their employees or agents.
In light of the foregoing, I hereby assume the risk of all bodily injuries and property damage which might arise from my participation in the Adopt Program. In entering the Adopt Program I am not relying on any representations from the City of Suffolk or anyone else about the conditions or organization of the event by the City of Suffolk or anyone else and I affirm that I have examined to my satisfaction all such conditions and organization.
I understand that the City of Suffolk has only given permission for this event to occur and is not responsible for its planning or operation and I waive any and all claims against the City of Suffolk for any injury or loss resulting from my participating in, the planning of, or the operation of the event. In assuming the risk of injury or damage I recognize that this includes injury or damages occurring as the result of any action or inaction by the City of Suffolk or others including, but limited to, negligence and/or gross negligence of the City or its employees. I recognize that the organizers and the City of Suffolk are relying on the truth of my assertions in the assumption of risk as the basis for allowing me to participate.
