    Architects, interior designers, renovation experts and landscapers: Enter your residential projects in Milwaukee Magazine's new design competition. All entries will be reviewed by a prestigious panel of judges, and the winning projects will appear in our October issue.

    Traditional Architecture 

    • Architecture
      We’re looking for an original design of an entire home by a single architect or an architectural firm. Please send photos of the interior and exterior of the home.
    • New Construction
      This category is open to residential builders. Show us the projects that exemplify what you’re known for. Please send photos of the interior and exterior of the home.
    • Vacation Home
      Whether it’s on a lake or in the woods, we want to see the best in vacation homes in the state of Wisconsin. Please send photos of the interior and exterior of the home. 

    Décor

    • Living Room: Modern 
      Show us your best example of a modern aesthetic and share your tips for developing the look. Explain your selection of furniture, artwork, lighting and any accessories that help establish the style (and name the sources, if possible). 
    • Living Room: Traditional
      How have you reinterpreted traditional style for today’s lifestyle? Explain your selection of furniture, artwork, lighting and any accessories that help establish the style (and name the sources, if possible).
    • Dining Room
      This is the room in the house where family traditions are established and memories are made. We’re eager to see how you have shaped a dining/eating area to serve as a friend- and family-friendly space.
    • Primary Bedroom
      For this space, a meeting of comfort and style are a must. We want to see your creativity in creating a sanctuary for rest and relaxation.
    • Specialty Room: Basement
      How have you designed this subterranean space for today’s living? We’re looking for creative uses of space and smart solutions for lighting, flooring, ceilings and other common basement elements. 

    Outdoors

    • Deck/Patio/Porch/Pool
      Even here in Wisconsin, outdoor living is gaining in popularity. Show us a project that enhances your clients’ outdoor experiences, whether for entertaining or everyday enjoyment.
    • Landscape/Hardscape
      Whether it’s adding curb appeal or creating a backyard oasis, landscaping helps perfect any home environment. Show us your new projects, makeovers and more, with a focus on landscape design. 

    Kitchen & Bath

    • Bath
      Be it a primary, hall or powder bath, these spaces invite creativity. Show us your ability to select colors, finishes, cabinetry and more. 
    • Large Kitchen: Traditional or Transitional (201+ square feet)
      The heart of the home, kitchens are deservedly one of the biggest investments. We want to see your best example of a kitchen that highlights the latest trends in traditional design. 
    • Large Kitchen: Modern (201+ square feet)
      Sleek kitchen looks continue to trend. How do you adapt the look for your clients’ tastes and needs?
    • Small Kitchen: Traditional or Transitional (up to 200 square feet)
      Great design and function are even more important in small spaces. Show how you’ve built in storage, style, function and beauty into a smaller space that also reflects traditional style. Include any design tips that would help others achieve their goals.
    • Small Kitchen: Modern (up to 200 square feet)
      How have you built a modern look in a small footprint? What are the tenets of the design and your solutions for working in a small space?  

    Renovation & Remodel

    • Historic Renovation or Restoration (50 years or older)
      Whether you’re working on a century-old four-square or a ’60s colonial, show how you’ve transformed an older home with today’s modern amenities. Get creative with spaces ­– think attics and basements.
    • Room Remodel: Kitchen
      Readers love a good makeover. Give us your best transformation of a dated kitchen with modern features and style. Projects can be purely cosmetic or complete transformations. Provide both before and after photographs, ideally with matching angles. 
    • Room Remodel: Living Room
      Let’s see your best looks for living rooms and how you transformed a space with surface updates such as new flooring, wall coverings, window treatments and furnishings. Provide before and after photographs, ideally with matching angles.
    • Room Remodel: Bath
      How have you transformed one of the most utilitarian rooms in the home with new surfaces, cabinetry and fixtures? Provide before and after photographs, ideally with matching angles.
