See below for a brief description of our volunteer areas of involvement (in ascending order of time commitment.) All volunteers must agree to meet with our Project Go Dark staff virtually or in-person ahead of the program's start date to coordinate their availability for the fall program.
The 2023 Fall MIP Program will begin in August & conclude in December (approximately 8-12 weeks, specific dates TBD)
Executive Panelist/Guest Speaker (Volunteer)
Expectations
- Prepare for the topic discussion
- Share your perspective based on previous/current experiences.
- Engage with our other panelists/guest speakers/students
Overall, the role of a Panelist/Guest Speaker is to contribute to a productive and engaging discussion on a particular topic or issue. By sharing your perspective, with our students and team, you can help to create a dynamic and informative panel discussion or guest lecture.
Estimated time commitment: 3-4 hours (per one discussion)
Please note: All Project Go Dark MIP panels or intimate discussions may be recorded for re-distribution and educational purposes.
Industry Mentor (Volunteer)
Expectations
- Sharing knowledge and experiences with PGD cohort(s)
- Providing guidance and support to current student(s)
- Offering constructive feedback to mentee(s)
- Acting as a sounding board
Overall, the responsibilities of an industry mentor are focused on providing guidance, support, and advice to help your mentee develop professionally and achieve their goals. By sharing your knowledge and experience, providing constructive feedback, and building a positive relationship with your mentee, you can help them grow and succeed in their career.
Estimated time commitment: 2-7 hours (per week)
Internship Host (Volunteer)
Expectations
- Clear and open communication with PGD Staff & students
- Regular bi-weekly check-ins with PGD Staff to keep team informed on internship progress
- Provide professional development and networking opportunities
- A minimum of 10 hrs/wk of prepared work for PGD intern
- Provide on-site constructive feedback to respective intern
By taking these steps, Internship Hosts can build a strong relationship with Program Coordinators and college student program participants while contributing to a positive and valuable experience for all involved.
Please note: Internship Hosts will not be required to pay interns; however, the Project Go Dark program plans to offer students an industry standard stipend for participating in our program. Students will be selected and matched with their host after completing multiple rounds of interviews with our internal PGD team. If you would like to be a part of the interview process, please be sure to let us know ahead of the interview process.
