Organizing Director Application
Overview: Climate Defiance is hiring an organizing director to lead our grassroots organizing efforts. This role will involve recruiting, retaining and training volunteers, managing paid campus fellows, and planning actions. We are a brand-new, youth-driven, grassroots group dedicated to confronting the climate crisis head on. We will use disruptive, nonviolent direct action to resist fossil fuel extraction.
About you
You are: Passionate about change; Outgoing, not shy, and eager to put yourself out there; A leader by disposition with at least three years of experience in grassroots organizing (volunteer work or experience in campus clubs counts); Revolutionary (and also practical); Committed to racial, economic and environmental justice; A self-starter who can independently think up ideas, execute, troubleshoot, and implement without being micromanaged; A believer in nonviolent confrontation and disruption; [ideally] skilled in media outreach and social media; [ideally] skilled in fundraising; [ideally] skilled in communications
Hours and pay:
This is a full-time position. The salary is $42,000 - $72,000.
Scope of work
Organizing: (60%): Build deep, sustained relationships with volunteers; Hire, manage and mentor college students participating in our paid campus fellowship. Action planning (10%): Plan and execute peaceful, disruptive, nonviolent direct actions to resist fossil fuels. Fundraising (10%): Support grassroots and grasstops fundraising initiatives. Strategic planning (10%): Provide high-level strategic guidance about the direction of the organization. Misc. (10%) As necessary, pitch in on other needs related to operations, communications, logistics, etc (we are a new, nimble, and small team, so the role is very non-siloed)

Washington, D.C., New York, Chicago, Michigan, and Wisconsin are all ideal places for this role, though we are open to hiring in another state for the right applicant. This role is open to anyone who meets the above qualifications and who lives and is legally authorized to work within the United States.
