Dear BWL Parents,
Birch Wathen Lenox is entirely committed to supporting our students and facilitating their academic success. We also recognize the importance of privacy. In an effort to balance these goals, we are currently updating our records to share certain information contained in your child’s educational documentation (neuropsychological reports, 504’s, IESP’s etc) (“Student Information”) with other “school officials” when doing so would be helpful to your child or consistent with the school’s legitimate educational interests.
At BWL, “school officials” with legitimate educational interests include BWL faculty, employees, and contractors, including (but not limited to) educational consultants, school psychologists, volunteers, or other third parties to whom the school has outsourced institutional services or functions for which the school would otherwise use employees. A school official has a legitimate educational interest if the official needs to review Student Information in order to fulfill his or her institutional duties.
We will continue to provide a summary of the accommodations of each student to BWL faculty.
Additionally, by signing the below, you hereby acknowledge that the following BWL school officials will, as appropriate, have access to necessary Student Information for legitimate educational interests, including: educational consultants, teachers, the Upper School Psychologist, the Upper School Learning Specialist, the Upper School Division Heads and the Heads of School.
Thank you for your partnership in your student’s education.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
Best,
Allison Swaap
Upper School Learning Specialist
