The Little Tern colony at Kilcoole (Wicklow) holds >50% of the Irish breeding population of this amber-listed species. We protect, monitor and study them 24/7 through the summer to ensure a successful nesting season and help secure their future in the Irish Sea and beyond.
The 2025 Kilcoole Little Tern conservation project is an NPWS project, carried out by BirdWatch Ireland.
At present we are seeking volunteers to help setting up the fencing around the colony and constructing the hide. We are seeking 2-3 volunteers per day, and most of this work will be done on weekdays between 1st and 15th May.
