The Gauntlett Powell Empowerment Award is a vehicle established in 2019 in honor of Mrs. Powell to assist survivors and is open to youths desirous of pursuing higher education at a vocational school or community college.
Prospective awardees must demonstrate a financial need as well as the ability to become successful through prior academic achievement and community involvement.
The ideal recipient would have overcome personal adversity and demonstrated some level of willingness in service to others as well as the desire to live life, pursue dreams and enable themselves.
**Application submission deadline March 2nd
After the selection committee meets to review applications, recipient will be notified via email and presented with the award at the Flourish Forward Conference.
Additional Requirments
- Must be between the ages of 16 and 29 years
- Must maintain minimum overall GPA of 3.0
- Must have been accepted in an accredited program and plan to start no more than 6 months after receiving award
- Active involvement in church preferred but not required. However, recipient must maintain good standing in their community
- One letter of reference from former high school staff such as guidance counselor or principal
- One letter of reference from a respected community member (minister of religion or former/current employer) explaining how the applicant's example and actions have influenced them or someone they know
**All potential awardees must apply by completing and submitting the application form on or before March 2nd.
