  • Motorcycling Queensland Level 1 Coaching Course

  • COMPONENTS OF COACHING COURSE

  • The following are the pre-requisites* that must be achieved before a candidate may apply for “Club Coach” or “Level 1” accreditation:

    1. Must be at least 17 years of age (18 at the time of applying)

    2. Be medically and physically capable of undertaking the work required as a coach (subjective assessment by Practical Seminar presenter)

    3. Provide proven association and/or membership with an MA affiliated club

    4. Provide proven understanding of motorcycle riding skills and techniques in motorcycle sport and/or provide proof of personal riding competency.

  • 1. Online training requisites:

    1. Provide proof of the successful completion of the MA e-learning Club Coach Sport Specific online training course (Level 0 coaching course)

    2. Provide proof of the successful completion of SportAus Community Coaching Essential skills course.

    3. Provide proof of the successful completion of Sport Integrity Australia Child Safeguarding in Sport Induction.

    4. Provide proof of the successful completion of Sport Integrity Australia Coaches course.

    5. Provide proof of the successful completion of Sport Integrity Australia Anti-Doping Fundamentals course.

     

    Once you complete this course online, then you must upload the certificates as per reply email. It is an absolute pre-requisite that the online training be completed before you attend the Practical competent of the Level 1 Coaching Course

  • 2. Practical Component
    (Complete of the MQ Level 1 Coaching Course)

    Time: 9am 5pm (approx)
    Cost: $150
    What to bring: Bike and gear if asked, Sun protection, eg sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, water bottle, etc.

    Motorcycling Queensland will provide:

    • Catering
    • All necessary course resources

    Course covers: Level 1 motorcycle sport (practical) component including:

    • 'Kick Start' modules
    • Discipline specific skills
    • Accreditation Testing Assessment
  • ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS - LEVEL 1 COACHING COURSE

  • Assessment Task #1 - Session Planner (completed after the course)

    Participants must complete and submit a session plan for one training session for an athlete. The planner will be judged on the following criteria:
    1. Identifying suitable goals for the session
    2. Safety considerations
    3. Including appropriate warm up and warm down exercises
    4. Activities to match the athlete's skill level
    5. Seeking feedback, etc. etc.

    Assessment Task #2 Practical Coaching Assessment (completed at the course)

    A practical demonstration of coaching skills is required, by teaching a skill to a group of riders. The coaching task should be of at least 10 minutes in length. Participants will be assessed on:
    1. Organisational skills
    2. Group Management
    3. Teaching skills
    4. Communication

    Failing Assessment Task/s
    Each instance of an attendee failing any of the Level 1 Coaching Course Assessment requirements will be handled on a case-by-case basis and will usually involve the attendee being required to re-do any Assessment Tasks that they failed originally.

  • EXPLANATION OF TYPES OF COACHING ACCREDITATION

  • Club Coach Accreditation

     “Club coach” is the initial accreditation that is issued after a participant successfully attends a Level 1 Motorcycle Sport Coaching Course and fulfil the following:

    • Completes the online training
    • Passes the Practical Coaching Assessment (Assessment Task 2) – during course
    • Passes the Session Planner (Assessment Task 1) – post course

    Then they must log 20 hours of practical motorcycle coaching, either doing Kickstart Assessments or working with/assisting an accredited L1 or L2 coach so that they can then apply for a Level 1 accreditation upgrade.

    Club Coaches can:

    Coach a maximum of 6 riders in a coaching session

    • Conduct Kickstart assessments
    • Assist Level 1 or 2 coaches

    Level 1 Coach Accreditation

    “Level 1 Coach” is the accreditation that is issued after a participant successfully attends and passes the Level 1 Motorcycle Sport Coaching Course and fulfil the following:

    • Completes the online training
    • Passes the Practical Coaching Assessment (Assessment Task 2) – during course
    • Passes the Session Planner (Assessment Task 1) – post course
    • Log 20 hours of practical coaching - within 12 months after course

     Level 1 Coaches can:

    • Conduct Kickstart assessments
    • Conduct Junior Coaching endorsement upgrade
    • Assist Level 2 coaches and supervise coaching days
    • Coach a maximum of 6 riders in a coaching session
    • Supervise permitted practice days
    • Conduct rider competency assessments

     

    Level 2 Coach Accreditation

    “Level 2 Coach” is the accreditation that is issued after a participant has attended a Level 2 Motorcycle Sport Coaching Course and fulfil the following:

    • Pass the Practical Coaching Assessment – during course
    • Pass the Motorcycling Specific take home assessments – within 1 month after course
    • Undertake 40 hours practical motorcycle coaching (10 hours supervised) – within 12 months after course

     Level 2 Coaches can:

    • Conduct Kickstart assessments
    • Conduct Junior Coaching endorsement upgrade
    • Conduct general coaching sessions
    • Utilise Level 1 accredited coaches as assistants
    • Coach a maximum of 15 riders, with an additional 10 riders per Level 1 assistant coach
    • Supervise permitted practice days
    • Conduct rider competency assessment
