The MTNow competition has always been working in close connection with the Media Library for Dance and Theatre of the German Centre of the ITI in Berlin.

Submitting your work to the competition means that your work is also archived for future generations and reasearch and that the information about the project provided, and a digital copy of the video recording will be part of the Music Theatre NOW archive at the ITI media library for dance and theatre in Berlin and will be listed on their online database. The ITI media library for dance and theatre is a non-commercial institution promoting information and communication among performing artists of all genres.

Your work will NOT be published online or accessible from outside – watching the video documentation is only possible for scholars and other interested persons on site in Berlin.

In order to support the archiving of new works for the purpose of documenting the development of music theatre worldwide you can now also choose to SUBMIT YOUR WORK TO THE ARCHIVE without taking part in the competition and without being charged the administration fee. 

For this option please choose ARCHIVE ONLY instead of a payment method when completing the application form.

It is hard for a jury to compare apples with oranges and this is true for our selection process as well. In order to make this process more transparent we will distinguish between three different categories of work.

The choice of catgeory will not affect the chances of your production to be selected by the jury for the final list of works to be awarded, but of course define the framework of the direct competition and competitors.

Depending on the number of submissions for each category the jury will decide on a ration of works to be selected from each field – with the option of not award within a category if none of the submitted works is qualifying for the international award.

These information is not strictly necessary, but might help the jury to get a better understanding of the project and the poeple involved.

Please provide as much PRIMARY information as possible, including…

- a synopsis (in English)

- biographies of the artistic team (in English)

If an english version of the libretto is available as well, please upload it as well.

Further information (e.g. score, cast list – including the names of all musicians and performers –, program booklet) are also appreciated.

PLEASE DO NOT UPLOAD ANY OTHER INFORMATION SUCH AS PRESS RELEASES, ADVERTISING, PHOTOGRAPHIC MATERIAL OR REVIEWS.

All files must be in PDF format and should not exceed 20 MB and please do NOT USE BLANKS in the file name (try "_" or "-" instead).

Please provide a complete documentation of the production for the jury in high quality for DOWNLOAD via a filesharing platform, download access at e.g. Vimeo or a private server.

Please use a common video codec (as mp4, mpeg or mov / file might be compressed as zip though) and do not exceed file size of 2 GB.

Please make sure that the file is at least available for 7 days.

Can you provide further information about the video recording of the performance?

These information is required for a proper handling of the material in the Media library of the ITI.

In case a festival would like to present your work in a streaming program, do you have the required rights and legal permission?

This will not affect the decision of the jury, but helps us promoting your work after the competition within our network!
