  • Welcome to the Fox and Hound Grooming Co. family. We are so excited to be part of your cat’s life for their grooming needs. Our service agreement will go over our policies and some generalized questions that can be answered.

The safety and grooming experience for your pet is our top priority. We are pet first aid certified and operate in a fear free environment for pet's and their groomers. Every effort will be taken to make sure your pet has the best experience possible. We know grooming can be stressful for some pets, we work one on one through the entire process to ensure they are comfortable from beginning to end.

Please ensure your cat is brought in to their appointment in a cat carrier.

We have parking located in the back of our building, to access it you can use our laneway to the left of our building (it is a bit narrow) or you can use the laneway one over to the left around the black building, it loops to our lot in the back.

Please use our backdoor entrance located in our parking lot for all appointments and walk-ins.

Consent Waiver Sometimes grooming can expose a hidden medical problem or aggravate a current one. If your pet is matted or aggressive there is a greater risk of injury and stress. Problems happen occasionally during or after grooming such as nicks, clipper irritation and mental stress. These are most notable in senior cats, cats with impairments, agressive behaviour, and extreme matting. Signing this form indicates you are aware of the risks and understand accidents can happen when working with live animals.

Booking Appointments is best through the shop landline at 613-421-7277. If we can't answer the phone right away please leave a message with your full name, breed of cat and phone number. We will return messages as soons as possible. If you need to cancel your appointment we require 48 hours notice to avoid a fee. Please ensure you receive a confirmation from your groomer that the appointment is cancelled. Appointment times are incredibly valuable to both groomers and their clientele, 48 hours notice ensures there is adequate time to find a replacement for the time slot. Extenuating circumstances will be pardoned.

No show to an appointment with no notice will generate a fee of 100% of the groom price and there will be a non-refundable deposit required if you want to rebook the appointment. Consistently late check-ins of 10 minutes will result in a late fee being added after the third occurrence. More than 10 minutes late could result in rescheduling and a fee priced at the groomers discretion to rebook. Extenuating circumstances will be pardoned. We rely on clients to be punctual as we are one on one groomers, we want to ensure quality and never want to be rushed through a groom.

We do not guarantee reminders for booked appointments. Please make sure your date and time is recorded.

In order to maintain a safe and comfortable environment we require all cats to be up to date on their rabies vaccinations. By signing this form it is understood their vaccines are up to date.

Pet temperament is very important for a successful relationship between groomer and cat. Groomer’s have the right to refuse to groom a cat based on compatibility and temperament. If a cat exhibits dangerous behaviour to itself or the groomer the service will be stopped. If the cat exhibits high anxiety that poses a risk to their health or becomes a hazard the service will be stopped. Temperament will always be discussed between the client and the groomer to ensure transparency and to allow for a plan to be formulated for future appointments. If the cat is sent home unfinished due to temperament the groomer will charge according to services preformed and time spent. A biter surcharge may also apply.

Pricing varies according to service, type of haircut, type of coat, behaviour, age, weight/size and condition of the coat. Prices are listed on our website under Services & Prices. Prices are subject to change according to the groomer’s discretion. All prices are a starting point based on circumstance. The best way to get an exact quote is through an in person consultation. Additional fees will incur with de-matting, impacted coats and pelted coats. De-matting a coat will depend on the overall condition. We will only de-mat areas that are safe and humane.

Matting refers to pets that have excessive tangles, clumping and knots of hair and coat. Every area of the cat has the potential to have matting. De-matting can be a very uncomfortable and potentially painful experience for the animal. We recommend that if the mats are too tight to the skin and cannot be brushed out, shaving is the only safe and humane option. Extreme matting cuts circulation off to the skin. When the mat is released and the skin is able to breathe again there is a risk that the skin could form a bruise or hematoma. There is a higher risk of nicks and cuts because skin is potentially pulled too tight by the mat. Other skin irritations can occur under shaving mats, revealing sores, scabs and dry skin. This process is extremely delicate and requires immense skill. Dematting/Detangling of matted hair may cause patchiness and hair loss. Consent to remove the matted hair is on this understanding. Shaving your cat will dramatically change the pet's apppearance. Removal of matts whether by shaving or dematting can be stressful to your pet and may exacerbate stress-sensitive health problems.

Coat pelt refers to an animal that is entirely encased in matting. The animal will require shaving underneath the matting to relieve the coat humanely. This requires the coat to be shaved pre-bath which puts groomer's blades and clippers through a dirty coat. Dirty coats put more strain on tools and can easily ruin blades quickly. This process requires a lot of knowledge in anatomy and the ability to safely remove the pelting.

The health and welfare of your pet is our first concern and we will always choose humanity over vanity.

Pregnant Cat's · We do not groom pregnant cat's. Grooming is stressful and could cause a risk of miscarriage.

Touch Ups · If you find there needs to be an adjustment to the groom, we are happy to do any touch ups. We allow 48 hours after the groom takes place for complimentary adjustments. If it has been over 48 hours there will be a touch up fee priced according to how much adjustment is made.

Non-Owner Drop Off · If you are having someone else drop off your cat for grooming please make sure you allocate time for a phone call so we can discuss what type of service/haircut. We often have a series of questions especially for new clients to make sure we are producing the best service.

Sedation · If for any reason you give your cat medication for anxiety and it inhibits their behaviour in any way please let us know at the time of booking.

0 Tolerance Policy We tolerate absolutely no harassment, violence, discrimination, bullying of any kind, raised voices or being sworn at. Any type of abusive behaviour to any staff member in person, over the phone or through messages will result in immediate disengagement. Depending on the severity a police report will be filed. Any first offence will result in complete banning of any service through our company.

  • Senior & Medical Waiver

Any grooming that takes place on an elderly cat or cat with health issues will be at the owner's risk. Grooming may expose pre-existing medical conditions and/or skin problems for which Fox and Hound Grooming Co cannot be held liable. Elderly cats are at a higher risk for nicks from shaving.

Certain illnesses and conditions including (but not limited to) diabetes, heart murmer, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, seizures and obesity result in a higher risk of incident during grooming.

  • Previously discussed grooming styles may not be completed due to the cat's health condition(s). The groomer will make the most appropriate decision for the cat's well being. The client will be responsible for payment based on the services completed in lieu of the previously discussed styles.

  • Not every cat is a candidate for shaving, whether a full body haircut or smaller areas including sanitary or belly shaves. It is important to discuss grooming options with your professional groomer to develop customized grooming for your cat.

Shaving may not be recommended for two primary reasons:

    1) Cat's skin condition

In order to minimize the risk of nicking a cat while shaving, the skin should be healthy and supple with some tissue underneath. This helps to create a flat area for the clipper to go over. Skin that is wrinkly, thin and fragile can easily be cut even by the most cautious groomer. For this reason, your groomer may recommend alternative grooming services instead of shaving.

    This may effect:

Young cats/kittens: While these cats may have healthy skin and coat many are still thin and wiggly. This makes it difficult for the clippers to keep to a flat surface safely. It is also important to make the cat's first experience positive and low stress.

Senior Cats: As cats age they lose body mass and may become dehydrated. This causes the skin to become thin, wrinkly and fragile. Even cats that are used to being shaved may need to adjust the grooming services they recieve as they get older.

Cats with health concerns: Skin and coat health can be affected by a number of health problems including allergies, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, infections and many more. If the skin is too fragile or irritated, shaving should be avoided if possible.

    2) Cat's behaviour during grooming

Groomers work with very sharp equipment. Even though most cats do well during grooming, some cats can be less tolerant of the process then others. Cats who react with aggression or are overly stressed are not the ideal candidate for a full body haircut. While a professional cat groomer will take every precaution to minimize the risk of accidents, cats that react to stressful situations with quick and unpredictable movements can cause injuries to occur. Time may also be an issue for these cats. The longer the groom the more stressed they can become: so it is best that the groom is kept only as long as necessary to maintain proper skin and coat health. This may mean for some cats a full body haircut is not possible.

    Alternatives to shaving

If your cat is not a candidate for shaving, there are other options to keep your cat's skin and coat well maintained and healthy. These include regular bathing, blow drying, brush outs and deshedding. Your groomer will recommend the best services to meet your cat's grooming needs
