  • Agreement

You must trust and be trustworthy to be trusted. It is one of the most, if not the most, important factors in the partnership. Mentoring pairs will share information about one another and their business throughout the program. Partners must be very clear on the limits they want to place on the information shared. Establishing clear boundaries is a big step toward building trust. As a mentor and/or mentee in the GABCC Growth and Goals program, we agree to abide by the following set of guidelines:
  • Nature of the Relationship

    • Mentoring is not advice, therapy, or counseling. It is a relationship of equals where accountability for moving yourself forward lies with the mentee; responsibility for providing insights, challenges, and mentoring support lies with the mentor.
    • If at any time you believe that the mentoring program is not meeting your expectations, please let the program administrator know via email immediately at mygabcbafa@gmail.com.

    Program Duration and Mentoring Sessions

    • The program will last a duration of at least six (6) months.
    • You will meet for a minimum of one hour every month in one-to-one meetings virtually, which may be supplemented by brief e-mail or chat exchanges.
    • Together, you will mutually determine the schedule for your mentoring sessions.

     Responsibilities

Mentors and Mentees build trust and maintain a positive mentoring relationship with the following responsibilities:

    Mentor:

    • Help the mentee develop and produce results through an interactive process focused on individual goals, and built on the natural strengths of the mentee.  Mentees are resourceful and whenever possible, the Mentor will elicit solutions and strategies from the Mentee.
    • Offer fresh perspectives, serve as a sounding board, and provide support and/or guidance to help the Mentee solve problems effectively.
    • Be honest and provide constructive feedback while sharing insight on their own experiences.
    • Honor the confidentiality guidelines described in this agreement.
    • Be respectful of the mentee's time. If it is necessary to make a change in a scheduled meeting, notify the mentee at least 24 hours in advance, if at all possible.

    Mentee:

    • The Mentee is expected to give 100% effort in order to receive 100% of the benefits of this mentoring process. Participate to the fullest and understand that there are different levels of participation.
    • If there are any concerns about the mentoring process, please contact the program administrator immediately.
    • Be respectful of the mentor’s time. If it is necessary to make a change in a scheduled meeting, notify the mentor at least 24 hours in advance, if at all possible.
    • The Mentee agrees to be open to feedback that the mentor shares and will respect the insight and experiences shared by the mentor.
    • Keep others informed (as is appropriate) about general mentoring goals and progress.
  • Confidentiality

    • All information provided and discussed during the course of mentoring remains private and confidential, unless express permission is given for the information to be shared with others.
    • The Mentor will let others know as needed, about the Mentee's level of commitment to the mentoring process. (Examples: The GABCC President, Program Administrator, Member Services Director)
    • The Mentor may keep brief notes on sessions so as to recall important details about the Mentee's progress.  Mentoring sessions are not recorded unless both parties agree to record.
    • Neither party will disclose their communications unless there are inappropriate behaviors or as required by law.

    No-Fault Termination

During the mentorship agreement, it is important that both mentee and mentor communicate openly and honestly to give each other feedback. Both parties will discuss and attempt to resolve any conflicts as they arise. However, if this is not possible, agree to abide by one another’s decision. At that time, the relationship can be terminated, and new relationships can be sought.
