    Viola Site Visits
  • The Board of Directors encourages congregants to visit the Viola property prior to voting as part of making an informed vote, which is scheduled for Wednesday 05/03 (after the forum) through Sunday 05/07. Congregants can drive along Circle Drive and Viola Road anytime to get a sense of the property.

However, a liability waiver is required if you enter and/or walk on the property between Sunday 04/30 through Wednesday 05/10. 1st UU doesn't own the property. The signed waiver releases the current property owner and 1st UU from liability. Scheduled guided tours will not be offered as these restrict the days / times when visits can occur. Sturdy footwear is recommended as there are no developed paths and steep terrain on the property.

The entrance to the site is directly across from the Viola entrance to Century High School. The image below shows how to access a small parking area on the Viola property.  Park on or near the partial-gravel driveway on the upper tier of the property.

The approximate 38 acre property includes the 2 parcels indicated in the second image below.

Use the form below the images to indicate your intent to walk on the site.

  • Liability Waiver

I know that walking on a large undeveloped property with uneven and potentially hazardous terrain could cause injury or death. I will only walk the site if I am medically able and properly attired, and by my signature, I certify that I am medically able, in good health, and properly attired.

    • I agree to abide by all rules associated with the opportunity to explore the Viola Property.
    • I assume all risks associated with participation, which may include but not limited to, falls, insect bites, physical contact with wildlife, other participants and/or volunteers, including the potential of the contraction of a communicable disease resulting from contact with other participants and volunteers.
    • I assume all risks including: the effects of weather; high heat and/or humidity; freezing temperatures; contact with insects and/or wildlife; and effects of the terrain.

Having read this waiver and knowing these facts I, for myself and anyone entitled to act on my behalf, waive and release the property owners, First Unitarian Universalist Church of Rochester, and the City of Rochester MN, Haverhill Township, and Olmsted County from all claims or liabilities of any kind arising out of my participation in this event, even though that liability may arise out of negligence or carelessness on the part of the persons or organizations named in this waiver.

I grant permission to First Unitarian Universalist Church of Rochester to use photographs, motion pictures, recordings, or any other record of this event for any legitimate purposes.
