    Powell Police Department
  • The City of Powell Police Department seeks qualified candidates to become Police Officers. If you are interested in joining the team, please complete our questionnaire below.     Candidates can earn up to an additional twenty (20) percent credit to the total interview score for military experience, a current Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) law enforcement certification, and having a degree.  These additional credits can only be earned if candidates have submitted proof of their credit with the questionnaire. Credit can be earned for any of the following:

    • A military credit of twenty (20) percent of the applicant’s score, when approved, shall be applied to candidate’s panel interview score in accordance with standards established by the Board of Personnel Review. 
    •  A ten (10) percent credit of the applicant’s score, when approved, shall be applied to the candidate’s panel interview score when the applicant has a current Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy law enforcement certification.  
    •  An educational credit of ten (10) percent of the applicant’s score, when approved, shall be applied to the candidate’s panel interview score when the applicant has a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in any field of discipline (or an advanced postgraduate degree such as a Master’s, PhD or Juris Doctor).  
    • An educational credit of five (5) percent of the applicant’s score, when approved, shall be applied to the candidate’s panel interview score when the applicant has an Associate Degree from an accredited university in any field of discipline. 

    Please note that an applicant is only eligible to receive an educational credit for one (1) eligible degree and in no way can the educational credit be combined from more than one (1) degree. 

    Applicants will be asked at to complete a voluntary “Equal Employment Opportunity Information” (EEO) form at the end of this pre-interview questionnaire. This form will be used for governmental reporting purposes only and refusal to complete the EEO form will not subject the candidate to any adverse treatment. Only the City’s Human Resources Department will have access to information in this form.    

     The Personal Record information provided with this questionnaire will be used to conduct a preliminary record check that includes a Comprehensive Criminal History (CCH) and a driving record check.  This is done to determine if any disqualifiers exist that would render a particular candidate ineligible to continue further in the selection process.  A list of employment disqualifiers is attached.

The law enforcement organization requesting the information pursuant to this release will discontinue processing my application if you refuse to disclose the information requested. For and in consideration of the Powell Police Department's acceptance and processing of my application for employment, Iagree to hold the Powell Police Department, its agents and employees harmless from any and all claims and liability associated with my application for employment or in any way connected with the decision whether or not to employ me with the Powell Police Department. I understand that should information of a serious criminal nature surface as a result of this investigation, such information may be turned over to the proper authorities.

    I understand my rights under Title 5, United States Code, Section 552A, the Privacy Act of 1974, with regard to access and to disclosure of records, and I waive those rights with the understanding that information furnished will be used by the Powell Police Department in conjunction with employment procedures.

  • A photocopy or fax copy of this release form will be valid as an original thereof, even though the said photograph or fax copy does not contain an original writing of my signature. This waiver is valid for a period of one year from the date of my signature.   • Completion of this form is voluntary and will not affect your opportunity for employment, or the terms or conditions of your employment. This form will be used for EEO-1 reporting purposes only and will be kept separate from all other personnel records only accessed by the Human Resources department. Please return completed forms as part of the employment application packet.

    If you choose not to self-identify your race/ethnicity at this time, the federal government requires City of Powell to determine this information by visual survey and/or other available information.
