Camp Kai is a junior waterman's camp located at Wai Kai in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. It is a summer camp for kids ages 8-13 who want to learn and enjoy various water sports and activities, such as stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, surfing, and more. Camp Kai also offers environmental education, cultural awareness, and leadership development programs for its campers.
The counselor in training (CIT) program is for those ages 14-15 who want to gain valuable skills and experience in working with children and leading water sports activities. As a CIT, you will assist the camp staff with planning, organizing, and facilitating the daily camp operations. You will also serve as a role model and mentor for the younger campers. The CIT program is designed to help you grow as a leader, communicator, team player, and waterman.
To apply for the CIT program, you must submit the following items four weeks before the start of camp.
After reviewing your application materials, we will contact you to schedule an interview. The interview will be conducted either in person or online. The interview will assess your suitability for the CIT program and your interest in water sports and activities.
- Completed application form (below)
- Two letters of reference from teachers, coaches, or other adults who know you well (not relatives). Please upload to application form.
- A short essay (250 words or less) explaining why you want to be a CIT at Camp Kai and what skills or qualities you can contribute to the camp.
The CIT program fee is $499 for a month session. We recommend that you attend at least four weeks to get the most out of the program. The fee covers your training, supervision, equipment, snacks, and a Camp Kai t-shirt. You will also receive a certificate of completion and a letter of recommendation at the end of the program.
If you have any questions about the CIT program or the application process, please contact us.
We look forward to hearing from you soon!
