  • CSTA Volunteer Application

  • CSTA is proud to be an organization that thrives on volunteer support. Help give back and shape the future of CSTA by volunteering for one or more of the following:

    • Committees: While every committee is a little different, committee members participate in one virtual meeting a month and approximately 2 hours of additional work outside of those meetings, for a total of 2-5 hours per month. Committee terms are two years with the exception of the Professional Development committee, which is a three year commitment. Most committees will select members in the fall, but others (e.g., conference committee) have a different timeline.

    • Conference, Awards, and Equity Fellowship Reviewers: We rely on many volunteers to review conference session proposals, equity fellowship applications, and awards applications. This is a shorter, one-time commitment of 2-3 hours at several points throughout the year.

    • CSTA's Voice Author: Write an original, 500- to 1,500-word post to share with the CSTA community. We welcome submissions on any topics relevant to K-12 CS teachers and especially love posts written directly by teachers. See submission guidelines. This is a short, one-time commitment.

    • Chapter Leadership: Plan and facilitate professional learning opportunities for other CSTA Chapter Leaders. Must be a current Chapter Leader.

    • CSEdWeek: This committee is by appointment only. There may be future opportunities to volunteer for this committee.

    • CS Honor Society (CSHS) Advisory: Shape the CSHS program and help plan and facilitate support to CSHS advisors. Must be a current CS Honor Society Advisor.

    • Editorial Board: Work with the CSTA marketing team to shape our member publications.

    • Professional Development: Evaluate and select among submitted professional development opportunities, and create and maintain online tools to support teachers and professional development providers. Note: the PD Committee is a three year commitment.

    • Reflective Teachers: Develop use or case studies to demonstrate effective and equitable teaching practice and teacher self-reflection in written and video format. We are looking for teachers who have knowledge/experience with the Standards for CS Teachers.

    • Policy: A teacher-led policy committee will: (1) vet, develop, and/or adopt a set of endorsed equitable policy recommendations and (2) develop a toolkit to support CSTA chapter leaders and members on effectively advocating for these policy recommendations at the state level.

      Committees not Currently Accepting Applications:
    • CSTA Board of Directors: This committee is on a different timeline and accepts applications separately.

    • CSTA Conference: This committee is on a different timeline and accepts applications separately.
  • Demographic Questions

We collect demographic information to better understand who our volunteers are and to track the impact of our equity-focused efforts. We are committed to addressing and counteracting biases in our processes and creating a volunteer base that is reflective of our broader community. This information is not required.
