During the 2024 season, Springhill Farmers’ Market Verified Vendors are allowed to setup at the market at 7 days per week from sunrise to sunset, beginning immediately after having filled out an application and paying the full year’s vendor fee with the Springhill Main Street office. Advertising will be provided for Springhill Farmers’ Market Verified Vendors through the Springhill Farmers’ Market Facebook Group. This group is reserved solely for advertising sales specifically occurring in person at the Springhill Farmers’ Market Pavilion, located at 404 N Giles Street, Springhill, Louisiana.
This market was created to provide local farmers and gardeners an outlet for the products and plants that they grow and create. Homemade items such as jellies, pickled fruits or vegetables, cakes, pies, and handmade crafts may also be featured at this outlet. Small independent vendors reselling items (such as Mary Kay), will be permitted to sell at the farmers’ market pavilion provided that their resale products do not compete with any Springhill Main Street District businesses. This market was founded to provide a place for citizens to purchase locally grown or handmade items. No sales of garage-sale type items will be permitted at the Springhill Farmers’ Market Pavilion. There is a $50 annual application fee due on March 1st each season which enables vendors to set up at each large-scale market on the first Saturday of each month from March through November and any other day of the week they so choose. Market vendors also have the option of paying a one-time $10 fee per each large-scale market as they go and foregoing the ability to set-up on any other day in between those dates which they have paid for specifically. These prices will include all non-profit organizations.
The Springhill Farmers’ Market facilities are cleaned and maintained weekly by the City of Springhill Public Works Department. It is the responsibility of each seller to ensure their area is clean when they leave. If vendors hold sales at the market pavilion on dates other than the 1st Saturday large-scale markets, it is the vendors responsibility to put the tables and benches that they may have moved back exactly as they were under the pavilion before leaving. The City of Springhill requests that vendor please not drive on the painted red sidewalks on the West side of the market pavilion. Parking under or adjacent to the pavilion will not be permitted during large-scale vendor events.
Regional farmers (within a 100 mile radius) who produce fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, eggs, dairy, honey, preserves, plants and others food may sell at the Springhill Farmers’ Market. All produce vendors will be required to display signage identifying the approximate geographic location where the produce was grown. This signage will be provided by Springhill Main Street. Fish sales MUST be approved by Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries Department. All non-vegetable or fruit producing plants, home-grown flowers, fresh cut flowers, and any type of flower bouquet will require specific permits from the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry. Please contact them directly for more specific information. Vendors will be required to furnish proof of each of the above approvals at the time of application and display these certificates at all times while selling.
Any scales used MUST be USDA certified. Proof of certification will be required with the Springhill Farmers’ Market application each renewed season and MUST be displayed at all times while selling.
Posting signs with the name of your farm and prices of your items is encouraged. After completing the application process, each vendor will be provided with a Springhill Farmers’ Market Verified Vendor sign that MUST be displayed each and every time the vendor sets up for sale at the Springhill Farmers Market pavilion. This sign acts as your market permit.
Use of price cutting tactics to compete with other vendors will not be permitted at the Springhill Farmers’ Market. No vendor has the authority to dictate to any other vendors any rules or prices. Vendor pricing will be in line with, but not necessarily the same as, local supermarkets. It is the vendor's responsibility to collect taxes from their customers and remit the appropriate funds to the Webster Parish Sales and Use Tax Commission and to the State of Louisiana Department of Revenue. Please contact each of these organizations directly for more information.
All vendors MUST join the Springhill Farmers’ Market Verified Vendor Group on Facebook to keep up with market communications and information. All vendors will be required to provide both a table and 10x10 ft. canopy for each market event. Vendor spaces located under the market pavilion will be assigned to vendors in need of ADA accessibility and vendors 65 years of age and older (both will require proof), first and primarily. If there are any spaces available under the market pavilion after the above needs have been met, they will be assigned via random drawing prior to each separate market event. Electrical outlets will be available to vendors who need power specifically and only to support their sales (examples include crockpots, heat press, etc.). All portable heaters and fans must be self-powered (examples include propane powered heater and battery powered fans). The use of electrical outlets will not be permitted for these items. Food trucks will be required to provide their own source of power at all times.
