Swimmer’s Code-of-Conduct
Swimmers are expected to:
- Do their BEST! and have FUN!
- Conduct themselves in a sportsman-like manner at all times. Respect others and in return you’ll receive the respect you deserve.
- Attend practice as often as possible
At Practices:
- Know and follow the Wahoo swimming safety rules in the WLST handbook
- Follow directions attentively and actively participate in the practices.
- Be prepared for practice. Swimmers are responsible for their own equipment (goggles, suits, water bottles, etc.). Please make sure your name is on your swim equipment.
- The swimmers are not to leave the practice area during a practice session without permission of a coach.
At swim meets:
- Check in with the Coaching Staff upon arrival.
- Stay in the team area for the entire meet except when swimming an event.
- Be aware of their scheduled events.
- Be ready for their events and report to the clerk-of-course at the designated time.
- Do not leave a meet without first informing the Coaches.
- Inform the Coaching Staff of any upcoming meet absences.

Parent Obligations
Age group swim teams don't just happen, they are made! More than most youth sports, swim meets require significant parental support. We are a volunteer-driven, non-profit organization. Everyone is a volunteer and active participant in the endeavor. As a parent of a swimmer on the team, you have the following obligations:
1. VOLUNTEER SUPPORT: Parents are required to provide volunteer support during meets.
  1. The number of meets parents must support will vary based on the number of home and away meets in a given season. Parents agree to complete the sign-up form by the deadline and render service. The requirement for the current season is two.
  2. Only one adult per family is required to volunteer for any given meet under this requirement.
2. SWIMMER SUPERVISION AND TIMELINESS: Parents agree to deliver their swimmers to, and pick their swimmers up from, practices and meets on time. This is essential to ensure safety, accountability of swimmers, and enable coaches to deliver the best experience to every swimmer.
  1. Parents must adjust accordingly when practice or meet times are changed due to weather or other circumstances.
  2. Outside of the specified time period of practice or a meet, parents are responsible for the supervision of their children while at the pool in accordance with WLSC rules.
  3. Practice start time is when swimmers are required to enter the water – they must arrive earlier than start time to apply sunscreen, ready equipment and report to their lane.
  4. Meet start times are when swimmers are required to start warmups in the water and likewise require time in advance to prepare.
3. SCHEDULING: Parents agree to meet all scheduling requirements for meets as outlined in the WLST Handbook.
  1. OPT-OUT SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:
    
    Practices – Attendance at practice is assumed. However, we all have competing demands (vacations, other activities, etc.) and may miss some practices. Parents should give notice to the coach via email in advance for expected absences from practice.
    
    Regular Season Dual Meets –Swimmer participation in all scheduled Dual Meets and Time Trials is assumed. Parents agree to complete the online form by the deadline as directed to signal any meets their swimmer will not attend.
  2. OPT-IN SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:
    
    Mini Meet – this event is voluntary for swimmers who meet the age criteria. Parents of these swimmers agree to complete the online form by the deadline to participate in this meet.
    
    Laurel Invitational – this event is voluntary for swimmers who meet criteria and wish to participate. Parents of these swimmers agree to complete the online form by the deadline to participate in this meet. Information on meet eligibility criteria will be published in-season.
    
    Divisional Championship & All Star Meet – these events have eligibility requirements based on swimming performance – not all team members will be able to swim these meets. Parents of swimmers who meet the criteria agree to complete the online form indicating their swimmer’s participation by the deadline.
  3. UNEXPECTED MEET ABSENCES – Parents agree to notify the head coach of any absence due to illness or other circumstance by phone as soon as possible, but no later than one hour prior to meet start.
