Organization Vision
Shades of Motherhood seeks to address inequities so that healthcare is actually available for everyone in Spokane regardless of the color of one’s skin. Shades of Motherhood is a movement and an aspirational vision where:
● Women of color have access to healthcare and education.
● Birthing people of colors’ voices in birth and postpartum care are elevated in their own communities through conversations, peer support, training, and group experiences. ● Community-based doulas are elevated and empowered to help our under-resourced and harmful healthcare systems through support for birthing people and helping drive increased awareness.
Organization Mission
The Shades of Motherhood Network’s mission is to center Black mothers and other birthing people of color through education, empowerment, and community so that we can use our voices, art activism, cultural care and awareness, advocacy, and data collection to eradicate health inequities.
The purpose of this grant is to support Black and Brown families through the support of doula's of color in the Spokane, WA community. We want to empower of families by helping them find a doula that can support their prenatal and postpartrum care through the lens of
ELIGIBILITY:
- Extensive childbirth experience.
- Relevant certification might be required.
- A calming and nurturing presence.
- The ability to answer questions and provide guidance in a non judgemental way.
- A wealth of knowledge on childbirth and pre and post-natal care.
- The ability to remain calm, multitask and provide emotional support.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
