Dear Prospective Scholarship Applicant,
The Dr. William T. Syphax Charitable Foundation (WTSCF) is proud to offer our annual scholarship to deserving male graduating high school seniors. Our scholarship is an investment in the education of our future generations, and a testament to the recipient's academic excellence, community involvement, and leadership.
Dr. William T. Syphax Charitable Foundation
Formerly known as the Theta Rho Lambda Education Foundation, the Dr. William T. Syphax Charitable Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that stands as a beacon of transformative impact, committed to breaking barriers and fostering positive change. Our mission, rooted in charitable and educational purposes, focuses on empowering underserved communities through education, leadership development, and community engagement. The foundation operates on four objectives:
- Empower through education
- Build stronger communities
- Cultivate leaders, and
- Champion positive change
Eligibility Requirements
All students interested in this scholarship must meet the following requirements to be eligible for consideration:
- Male graduating high school senior
- GPA of 2.75 or higher
- Residing in the Washington Metropolitan Area
Selection Criteria
The WTSCF will review each completed application and will select the award recipient(s) based upon specific criteria and information provided in the application. Selection criteria include:
- Completed application, incomplete applications will not be reviewed
- Financial Need
- High school GPA
- A copy of their most recent transcript
- Two (2) letters of recommendation (one MUST be academic and on school letterhead)
- A copy of their 2023-2024 FAFSA Student Aid Report (if applicable)
- Headshot (solid color background - no selfie)
- Short Answer Questions
- Personal Essay - “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” - Nelson Mandela.
In 300 to 500 words, describe a change you would like to make in the world and how college and your educational pursuits will help you make that change. Also discuss any obstacles you may encounter along the way and how you plan to overcome them.
Please note: If your school and recommenders require submitting your transcript and/or letters of recommendation on your behalf, please have them submit via email to Scholarship@wtsyphaxfoundation.org within the application deadline.
Application Process
The application deadline is Tuesday, April 30, 2024 11:59pm EST. All winners will be notified via email, so please use a valid email address on your application. If selected, you are asked to attend our 2024 Scholarship Recognition Event (winners will be notified of details).
If selected, you will be required to sign a Scholarship Acceptance Agreement Form (provided on the day of notification), and return it to us within ten (10) days of receipt, as well as provide your college Proof of Enrollment (no later than Monday, July 1, 2024).
Scholarship Award
The scholarship recipient will receive a one-time scholarship of $2,000.00 to help finance his post-secondary education. Scholarship funds will be issued directly to the recipient's college/university in one payment awarded at the beginning of the student’s first semester.
