FPN Island is an intergenerational residency for women (cis and trans), non-binary, and two-spirit lens-based artists. From September 11-18, 2023 on Toronto Island’s Artscape Gibraltar Point (AGP). AGP is a low-barrier venue with ramps into the building and large restroom stalls with handles on site. However, AGP is located on a car-free island and a 35 min walk from the ferry terminal which could present accessibility challenges. Artists are responsible for getting themselves to the Hanlan’s Point dock via the Toronto Islands’ Ferry service where a bus will be waiting to transport them to the venue and back on the last day. Residents will provide their own food, with the exception of the evening meals provided by FPN.
Selected artists will be expected to actively participate in the workshop sessions, communal meals, and respect the community and grounds. All residents will have private sleeping quarters, shared studios and bathrooms. Although time will be allotted for independent practice the residency privileges process and professional development and does not require the creation of new artwork.
Many of the following questions are being asked to support the jury in selecting a diverse group with intersecting identities who can learn from one another.
