Code of Conduct
Nefesh is committed to each student’s success in learning within a caring, responsive, and safe environment that is free of discrimination, violence, and bullying. We are committed to creating a safe and productive learning environment and work to ensure that all students have the opportunity and support to develop to their fullest potential and share a personal and meaningful bond with people in our community. We encourage teachers to work with their classes to create classroom guidelines for making the class a safe space. Nefesh promotes and mandates a culture of communication, understanding, tolerance, active learning, empathy, and the assumption of goodwill. All efforts will be made by Makom teachers and parents to solve conflicts through a process of transparent, forthright, direct, and honorable communication (verbally and in writing). All communication (between parents and staff, between parents and children, between children and children, between staff and staff, and between staff and children) should fall within these parameters.
COVID Safety
Health and safety is at the forefront of everything we do. We will adjust our COVID safety procedures as the pandemic continues to unfold. Some of the following restrictions might loosen, while others might tighten. At a minimum, we will always follow guidance from government health officials though we may impose stricter procedures to keep the community as safe as possible. Our COVID safety procedures as of May 2021 include the following:
- Require all teachers at Makom to provide proof of COVID vaccination.
- All students, parents, and staff at Makom are required to wear face masks while on the St. Be's campus.
- Health screenings will occur prior to students being allowed into classrooms.
- As a condition of enrollment in Makom, families must agree to abide by the COVID-19 Nefesh Policy. Violation of the policy can lead to suspension from Makom. In case of a confirmed case of COVID among Makom participants or staff, a cohort of Makom may be required to temporarily close under LA County Department of Public Health (“DPH”) guidelines or orders. If Makom must be suspended due to guidance or orders from DPH or another government or licensing agency, tuition and fees will not be refunded. Nefesh has taken all reasonable precautions to establish safety and health protocols, however it is not possible to guarantee an infection-free environment.
- All Makom and Teen Program participants 12 and over will need to provide proof of vaccination or documentation showing they are medically unable to receive the vaccine. For participants under 12, we are monitoring this closely and reserve the right to require vaccination at any point during the school year. Should we require vaccination, you will have 60 days to provide us with proof of vaccination.
- Covid policy is subject to change. Final protocols will be announced at the August 21st orientation.
