ENGLISH From May 10 to July 10, 2023, I CAME FOR COUSCOUS magazine x Musée YVES SAINT LAURENT Marrakech invite you to play with Yves Saint Laurent !
By sharing the pattern and sketches of dress 109 from the Yves Saint Laurent Spring-Summer 1979 haute couture collection, inventoried in the collections of the Musée YVES SAINT LAURENT Paris (HC1979E109R), I CAME FOR COUSCOUS magazine and the Musée YVES SAINT LAURENT Marrakech are launching a call open to all, in particular to young designers and fashion students from Morocco, the MENA region and their diasporas, inviting them to reinterpret this iconic dress in their own way, before July 10, 2023. Dress 109 was made famous by Catherine Deneuve during her appearance at the 32nd edition of the Cannes Film Festival, on May 24, 1979, when she introduced the film "À nous deux" by Claude Lelouch. The same year, the model Mounia – one of the first models of colour to grace the covers of major fashion magazines – a muse, frontwoman, and friend of the designer, walked the runway in dress 109. Forty years later, on January 24, 2019, when Catherine Deneuve’s Yves Saint Laurent wardrobe was auctioned at Christie’s Paris... Dress 109 was part of it. The quintessence of elegance and femininity, and as minimalist as possible, dress 109 is one of countless illustrations of the centrality of drawing to the designer’s creative process. Yves Saint Laurent reinvented styles and influenced his era, to such an extent that he freed himself from the codes of haute couture to inscribe in it his own language.I CAME FOR COUSCOUS offers its readers an authorized reproduction of an haute couture pattern from the archives of the Joste-Tamy Tazi fashion house, stored at the Fondation Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech, Morocco. The pattern, printed and folded, is placed inside the magazine. Cutting and sewing instructions are detailed there. Candidates will also be able to read a full article on that dress and Yves Saint Laurent's creative process. The call for applications, launched on May 10, will close on July 10, 2023. The works submitted will be examined by a jury presided over by members of Tamy Tazi's family, curators of the exhibtion "Yves Saint Laurent : Line and Expression", representatives of the YVES SAINT LAURENT museums in Marrakech and Paris, and of I CAME FOR COUSCOUS magazine, who will select the most outstanding designs. The rules of the open call for "Dress 109 – ICFCC x Musée YVES SAINT LAURENT Marrakech" are available on www.museeyslmarrakech.com/en and www.icameforcouscous.com. To obtain the pattern for dress 109, candidates can also buy the third issue of I CAME FOR COUSCOUS worldwide through a selective global network of more than 200 distribution points across 16 countries —major newsstands, bookshops, museum shops and online platforms around the world— and in print and digital formats on its website.
