2024 CWA Conference Session Proposal Form Logo
  • Session/Speaker Proposal Application for CWA's 32nd Annual Virtual Conference & Trade Show: Looking Forward.

    May 6-10, 2024. Pre-conference May 6, Dual-track Conference May 7-10.
  • WIC Celebrates 50 years in 2024! Thank you for your interest in presenting at the California WIC Association 32nd Annual Virtual Conference & Trade Show: Looking Forward. We will host this event virtually on the Hubilo platform May 6-10, 2024. There will be a pre-conference offering on Monday, May 6, followed by a dual-track conference May 7-10. Each session will be recorded, and attendees will be able to access these recordings for 60 days after the close of the conference on the password-protected virtual platform. CWA offers continuing education units for Registered Dietitians, International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC/CLC/CLE), and Contact Hours for Registered Nurses. We are working on providing contact hours for Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES) and will know more in the coming months.

We ask that you provide the following information for your session proposal(s).  You may submit this application for two additional co-presenters, and if there is a panel of speakers, please note that in your session abstract.

This conference will be in its 32nd year. Additionally, this will be the 50th anniversary year of the federal WIC program, so there is much to celebrate, reflect on, and plan for during this year's conference. We welcome 1,500 - 1,700 attendees, with a majority representing WIC staff from across the state, some community partners, and a few out-of-state WIC agency representatives.

We will not be using this form for our pre-conference. The precon will be comprised of longer dual-track sessions over a half day, with breaks. The topic areas will be nutrition and breastfeeding, focusing on childhood obesity and diabetes interventions and prevention. If you are interested in submitting a proposal for the preconference, please email Jodi at jmulliganpfile@calwic.org.

Our conference focuses on the following topic areas. Please let us know which topic area your session proposal falls under, and feel free to choose more than one area if applicable.

Topic Area 1: Early Childhood & Perinatal Development & Nutrition

Topic Area 2: Health Equity & Birthing Justice

Topic Area 3: Breastfeeding & Human Lactation

Topic Area 4: Leadership & Workforce Development

    Topic Area 5: Worksite Wellness

    Speaker compensation and benefits:

    • All speakers receive a complimentary full conference registration.
    • All speakers are eligible for a complimentary trade show booth.
    • All speakers receive a training consultation with our conference technical host if requested.
    • All speakers have a moderator and technical host on the back end, so they can facilitate and not worry about anything else.
    • All speakers are welcome to an edited recording of their session to add to their portfolio for future speaking opportunities.

We offer an honorarium to speakers where applicable and believe in a culture of equitable pay and full transparency. You will be asked to provide your speaking fee below. Speaker fees range from $100 for multi-speaker panels to $1,500 for single-speaker 90-min sessions. This year, we are capping the speaker fees at $1,500 for a 90-minute session. We are a small nonprofit with a modest budget, so we do our best to honor your time and value your expertise while also working within our means. Sometimes, our speakers come from within WIC and do not require an honorarium, and sometimes, they are outside professionals presenting research and are funded by a grant. Whichever way a speaker comes to us, we will do our best to work with you and hope that you will do the same for us.

If this is your first time applying to speak at a CWA conference, and you require a speaker fee, please be prepared to provide a link to recorded content from previous speaking engagements, preferably virtual speaking engagements.

If you have questions, please email Jodi @ jmulliganpfile@calwic.org.

The submission deadline has been extended to Friday, October 6, 2023.

Please note that we do not accept proposals for speakers that formula companies sponsor. Thank you.

Applicants will be notified of acceptance on a rolling basis, as we will both be accepting speaker proposals while simultaneously doing speaker outreach.
