Event Summary
Discover Downtown Franklin hosts the 5th Annual Ethos Celebration of the Arts event in Downtown Franklin on October 7th, 2023. The festival features juried artists, local and regional, showcasing original art in different medium categories.
Discover Downtown Franklin is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and a Nationally Accredited Main Street Community. Our mission is to connect people to our downtown community.
General Information
Juried art exhibition of fine arts. The 2023 Ethos Celebration of the Arts will be held on Saturday, October 7th, from 10am-6pm rain or shine! Artists must be present during the show hours.
Monetary awards for Best of Show as well as Best of Medium in the following categories:
2D: photography, painting
3D: Ceramics, Fiber, Glass, Jewelry, Metal, Sculpture, Wood
The awards are as follows:
Best in Show: $1000.00
1st in Category: $500.00
2nd in Category: $250.00
Awards
Jurors are invited each year to evaluate all artists’ work in the show and select the award winners. All artists are eligible for these awards. Monetary awards for Best of Show as well as Best of Medium in all categories.
Jury Procedure
The selection of artists will be made by a jury comprised of professional artists and gallery owners. Artist certifies that all jury images submitted represent his/her original work. Discover Downtown Franklin may limit the number of artists accepted in some categories in order to present a balanced show. Decisions of the jury are final. Discover Downtown Franklin will fill all vacancies from the show waitlist based upon jury scores.
Permitted Work/Mediums
The Ethos Celebration of the Arts festival is open to and welcomes all individual artists who make their own original fine art and/or fine crafts by hand. All work must be original and must be made by the artist who is present at the event.
We do not collect a sales commission from our exhibitors.
Prohibited Items
The following items are NOT permitted at the event: any work that is not your own or that you did not make by hand, imported items, commercially manufactured items, buy-and-sell items, and kit-made or pattern-made items. If you are found to be selling any of these items at the event, you will be asked to leave.
Rules/Regulations
Your images must represent work that has been executed by the artist. The submitted images must be representative of the work that will be displayed at the show. No additions or surprises.
The jury’s decisions are final and are not subject to review. Artists who display work at the event not comparable to what was juried in will be required to remove the non-juried items. Artists who fail to comply will be asked to leave.
The artist must be present at check in, present valid photo ID and must be present in the booth during festival hours except for reasonable breaks.
Discover Downtown Franklin reserves the right to reject or eject any exhibitor from the event without refunding any monies.
Booth Information
Each exhibitor must provide his/her own display. Booth spaces are assigned at the discretion of the Ethos Celebration of the Arts Committee. Booth spaces accommodate a 10’ x 10’ tent. Only one vehicle per artists allowed on the grounds during set-up and tear-down. You are solely responsible for the transportation, display, and sale of your work during the event. Artists must provide tents, tables, chairs, easels, and all other booth and/or display items needed. All artists are responsible for having their booths weighted at each corner to prevent damage in the event of high winds. Discover Downtown Franklin will not supply any of those items. Electricity and internet access are not available or provided during the event. Generators are not permitted. Your tent and booth items should not exceed the following dimensions: 10’ x 10’ for artist booth. The booth fee is $75 and for a double booth it is $135.
Logistics
The set-up period for all artists will be on Saturday, October 7th from 7-9:00am. Booths must be fully set up by 9:30am on Saturday for judging to begin. Tear down will begin on Saturday at 6:00pm. No vehicles will be permitted until all patrons have left the area. Set-up and tear-down will occur rain, or shine!
The Ethos Celebration of the Arts festival will be held regardless of weather, rain, or shine. There is no rain date for the event. No refunds will be issued in the event of rain, bad weather, or due to any other circumstances beyond Discover Downtown Franklin’s control.
There will be a hospitality area for artists that will have free coffee, water, and snacks.
Sales Tax
Artists retain 100% of their sales and are responsible for the collection and reporting of all applicable sales taxes.
Insurance
Artists are responsible for maintaining general liability insurance for their booth space during the event. Discover Downtown Franklin will not be responsible for any exhibitor property damage.
