  • The Franklin County Economic Development Corporation (FCEDC) is a unifying economic development organization that fosters a shop-local, community-first culture. We help entrepreneurs start businesses and help existing businesses grow. We take a proactive approach to attract visitors with the hope they’ll become locals. It is that intersection of developing business, community, and destination that informs and inspires our work every day as we move toward a bright and prosperous future. FCEDC organizes its work around the following four goals: strong economic development climate, vibrant entrepreneurial culture, flourishing downtowns, and resilient industries.

We take pride in our efforts to help small businesses and entrepreneurs in the Adirondack Frontier (Franklin County) with growth opportunities. We provide technical assistance, financing, and whenever possible and necessary, funding support.

  • Our region provides the perfect landscape for small business owners and entrepreneurs to bring their ideas to life. At the Franklin County Economic Development Corporation (FCEDC), we know how important small businesses are to Franklin County. We support small businesses in each of our key industries through financial support, technical assistance, business transition support and coworking spaces.

  • The Adirondack Frontier Small Business Program has 4 main priorities:

    Financial Support
One of the many challenges with owning a small business is access to the capital necessary to start, grow or transition a business. We can provide small business loans to business owners that cannot secure financing through traditional sources and we also help connect small businesses to other sources of financing. We also administer grant funding for eligible businesses that need support to set up or expand their businesses.

    Technical Assistance
We offer technical assistance to aspiring entrepreneurs and existing businesses to access information and resources to meet their needs. We provide assistance through our established relationships with resource providers and broad knowledge of opportunities, resulting in successful startup, retention and expansion efforts.

    Business Transition Support
We provide critical technical and financial support that is needed to help enable businesses to successfully transition to the next generation of entrepreneurs. The Adirondack North Country Center for Businesses in Transition (CBIT) provides matchmaking services with potential buyers, access to planning tools and connection with existing services. As a CBIT partner, we help connect business buyers and sellers with services, specialists, resources and education on best practices. If you are considering a transition now, or want to be prepared for the future, we are here to help you chart your path.

    Coworking
Coworking spaces provide small business owners, entrepreneurs and knowledge workers  a space to get work done, network and participate in their local business community. The Center for Rural Innovation has identified co-working & entrepreneurship spaces as one of the critical pieces of infrastructure that rural communities need for a digital economy ecosystem. The Carry coworking space located in downtown Saranac Lake offers a dynamic and flexible work space for Saranac Lake’s growing community of entrepreneurs that encourages collaboration and provides connections to the resources they need. There are options for annual, monthly, and day usage.
