Support for AB 318, the Mobilehome Residency Law Protection Act.
Picture yourself a mobile home owner back in 2018, prior to the Mobilehome Residency Law Protection (MRLP) Act of 2018. Your park owner hasn’t taken care of sewage running onto the streets or exposed electrical wiring. Residents complained but were told to move if they don’t like it. I had the right to take the park owner to court, but at what cost to me? I was trapped in my manufactured housing community with essentially no recourse when there were egregious violations.
The MRLP Program of 2018 charged the Housing and Community Development (HCD) to coordinate the resolution of complaints from homeowners relating to the Mobilehome Residency Law (MRL). Many of these complaints are sent to pro bono attorneys to find solutions to the problems discovered, including the writing of letters to the park owners responsible for the violations.
I appreciate Assemblywoman Dawn Addis sponsoring AB 318 to extend the program’s date to January 1, 2027. I appreciate having the right to send complaints about violations of the Mobilehome Residency Law to HCD. The process is working successfully and serious issues have been resolved.
The MRLPP is a very necessary tool for the protections offered by the Mobilehome Residency Law and needs to be continued indefinitely.
We ask that Legislators - Assemblymembers and Senators – join in passing this very important legislation. I, the undersigned, support this effort and will work to ensure its passage.
