Every August, SAMHSA commemorates Overdose Awareness Week (August 27 to September 2, 2023) and International Overdose Awareness Day (August 31, 2023) to remember the individuals, families, and communities who have all been impacted by overdose.

While IOAD is unbeknownst to most, there are many others who have unfortunately become all too familiar with this day. August 31st is a day for our communities to come together in remembrance of those we have lost. In their honor, we share their stories beyond the veil of addiction. We educate youth, families, and communities of the impact of substance use from various perspectives. We will have families who have lost their loved ones, whether it be their child, parent, sibling, etcetera. We would also love to hear from those who have lived experience with SUD. You will be surprised at just how many people this epidemic has affected.
The intention of our annual event isn't to glorify SUD or death. It is to break barriers and eradicate the judgment and stigma that surrounds the reality of substance use. We are the voice of our loved ones. We are those who keep their memories alive. We are the people who share glimpses of who should be here with us. Addiction is NOT a choice, and while MANY factors contribute to one's chemical makeup, a choice is by far hardly one of them.
We are taking this opportunity to invite our community to represent their businesses and/or organizations as we receive attendees from near and far. We value our vendors and sponsors, and in many ways you all help us share our message just by being present.
*We will not be on the Square this year. The venue of which we are hosting International Overdose Awareness Day is going to be Citizen´s Circle.
**We have authorization for 60 VENDORS and 6 FOOD TRUCKS.
We are working diligently to provide a safe, fun, engaging and informative time for everyone.
