In order to use the YIS bus service, student bus riders and their parents or guardians acknowledge and agree to the guidelines and other content of the YIS Bus Service Rider Handbook. We draw your attention particularly to the following and ask students and their parents to discuss these conditions with each other, as well as to have family communications and contingency plans in the event of any disruption to the bus service.
Term of Service
This agreement covers YIS bus service running on school days during the 2023-24 school year from August 21, 2023 through June 14, 2024.
Schedules
Pick up and drop off times may vary from the scheduled times on occasion due to school schedules (for example, early dismissal days), traffic conditions or other reasons.
Bus Supervisors
Bus supervisors arranged by the school may be YIS staff members, parents or Grade 11 or 12 students who have been trained for this role. Although efforts have been made to secure back-up supervisors in the event of the regular supervisor not being available, there may be occasions when a supervisor is not available.
Behavioral Standards, Safety and Security
- Students are expected at all times, both on and off the bus, to model the school’s values and act in accordance with our behavioral standards.
- Students are required to wear seatbelts, follow the instructions of the driver and supervisor at all times and to act in a manner which supports their own and others’ safety.
- Students are to refrain from distracting the driver and keep noise to an acceptable level.
- Students are expected to get off at their designated stop unless they have parental permission to get off at another stop.
- Failure to meet the standards detailed in the Rider Handbook and relevant school policies will result in refusal of the service with no refund given.
Limits of Responsibility
Bus service provider Nisshin Kotsu holds all requisite insurance policies and is solely responsible for safe operation of the service. Neither the school nor any bus supervisor arranged by the school can be held responsible for any injury or other harm to students while boarding, riding and disembarking from the bus. Additionally, as no supervision is provided at any of the bus stops other than the school campus, neither the school, bus supervisors nor the bus company can be held responsible for injuries/incidents at those bus stops. Neither the school, bus supervisors, nor the bus company can be held responsible if a student fails to get on or off at the designated stops, or if parents / caregivers fail to meet a student at the stop.
Fees, Payment, Cancellation and Change Requests
Fees, payment, cancellation and change request terms and conditions are as written in the 2023-24 YIS Bus Rider Handbook. In particular, it should be noted that the annual bus service fee applies regardless of how many rides the student takes during the school year while enrolled in the school, including in the event that the school has to shift to Blended Learning or Off-Campus Learning due to the pandemic or other reasons. It should also be especially noted that the registration deposit of ¥50,000 is non-refundable unless the school cancels the service and that a non-refundable fee of ¥20,000 applies for any change in service requested by the rider.
