  • 1. MSI Prevention Strategies

    Presenter:

Matt Lothian – Client Engagement Advisor, Construction Safety Association of Manitoba

    Tuesday, May 5, 2026 (12 p.m. - 1 p.m.)

    Presentation description:

Musculoskeletal injuries (MSIs) make up nearly a quarter of all workplace injury claims in Manitoba’s construction sector. These sprains and strains—often caused by heavy exertion, awkward postures, and repetitive motions—are common in construction but can be significantly reduced with better task design and safer work practices.

This session will outline employer responsibilities under Workplace Safety and Health Regulation Part 8, including informing workers of MSI risks and developing safe work procedures. We’ll also introduce how CSAM supports employers through digital MSI assessments.

A highlight of the session will be a live demonstration from TuMeke, whose computer vision and AI technology analyzes how people move at work, identifies ergonomic risks in seconds, and helps prevent injuries before they occur. You’ll see how CSAM uses this tool to create MSI assessment reports and collaborate with companies on safer task strategies.

    2. The Value of the NCSO®

    Presenters:

Daniel Olson – Training & Program Advisor, Construction Safety Association of Manitoba

Elyse Love-Dillman – HSE Manager, FWS Group of Companies

Teri Urban – Director – People, Safety & Administration, Parkwest Projects

    Wednesday, May 6, 2026 (12 p.m. - 1 p.m.)

    Presentation description:

Join us for an engaging lunch and learn exploring the value and impact of the National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO®) designation. Recognized across Canada, the NCSO® verifies that an individual has met the national standard of training, practical application, experience, and written performance measurement established by the Canadian Federation of Construction Safety Associations (CFCSA).

In this lunch and learn, you’ll hear from two voices with two different vantage points. One guest will share their personal experience—how the NCSO® designation has influenced their career path, expanded their skills, and strengthened their role as a safety leader. The second guest will speak from the company perspective, offering insight into how NCSO®-certified team members contribute to stronger safety culture, reduced risk, and more effective health and safety program implementation.

If you’re curious about the designation or exploring ways to elevate your company’s safety performance, this session will offer real stories, practical takeaways, and a clear look at the value the NCSO® brings to both people and organizations.

    3. Understanding Asbestos Management

    Presenter:

Michael Boileau, Portfolio Leader, SAFE Work Manitoba

    Thursday, May 7, 2026 (12 p.m. - 1 p.m.)

    Presentation description:

With Manitoba moving toward stronger asbestos protections—including mandatory certification for workers and required employer registration by June 1, 2027—organizations need to understand what’s changing and how to prepare. These updates reflect the province’s commitment to clearer responsibilities, improved training, and better safeguards for anyone who may encounter asbestos on the job.

This lunch and learn will provide a practical overview of the updated Asbestos Management Guide from SAFE Work Manitoba. We’ll outline employer and owner responsibilities, explain what steps must be taken to meet compliance, and review the new asbestos training standards that will shape certification requirements in the years ahead.

To close the session, we will highlight CSAM’s online Asbestos Awareness course and additional resources available to support employers, supervisors, and workers as they prepare for the upcoming regulatory requirements.
