Parent Training Groups
  • Parent Groups at Tampa Pediatric Psychology

  • There is no denying that parenting a child with challenging behavioral or emotional concerns is tough, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming and you don’t have to figure everything out on your own. Through education on child development and highly researched behavioral strategies, you can move past feeling stuck and find more peace in parenting— all backed by science and from the comfort of your own home.

Our clinical parenting groups led by our child psychologists offer a short-term, convenient, and cost-effective solution to helping you and your child with challenging behaviors related to attention problems (ADHD/ADD), anxiety and OCD, sleep problems, autism, and oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). A formal diagnosis is not required to join a group.

Parents with ADHD Parenting Children with ADHD

This is an 8-week group for parents of children with ADHD who also have ADHD themselves. Having ADHD puts a unique spin on parenting. Meetings will help parents take care of themselves, better understand behaviors characteristic of child and adult ADHD and the effective strategies for managing them, and provide a safe space for parents to share their challenges among a group of parents who understand and relate. This group is for parents/caregivers of children all ages. Parents who have ADHD, but their child does not, are also welcome.

This group meets every other week virtually for 75 minutes and is offered at a time that works for everyone in the group (because that's how ADHD works!). The group starts as soon as the waitlist is full. Fee: $70/session.

     Important Information About Our Groups:

Groups are kept small to ensure time for sharing and individualized problem solving. New groups are started as soon as the waitlist is full so please complete the form below if interested in a current or future group.

Fee = $70 per session paid in full or across two payments as needed. There are no refunds to ensure the quality of the group. We accept debit/credit and HSA/FSA cards.

A screening assessment is available to parents who would like to better pinpoint problem areas before starting a group. It is not required. The fee is $275. You will receive a standardized child behavior rating scale that screens for a range of childhood problems including ADHD, anxiety, autism, emotional disorders, and depression. We will then meet briefly by video call to review the results and recommendations for next steps. Other relevant resources/referrals will be shared as needed. This is not a substitute for a comprehensive psychological evaluation but can help determine the need for one. More information on our comprehensive evaluations can be found here.

Insurance: Health insurance companies are funny about covering clinical parent training groups. It typically falls under "multiple-family group psychotherapy", which is not usually covered by private health insurance. We can still provide you with an invoice to submit for out-of-network reimbursement if you are interested. We do our best to include all details necessary that make it more likely to be approved, but can't guarantee coverage. Please include this on your registration form if interested. We also accept HSA/FSA cards, which do not need approval.

Cancellation Policy: In order to ensure the quality of our groups, there are no refunds or makeup dates for the group. We keep groups small to allow for them to be as individualized as possible, which also means the quality is reduced by even just one parent cancelling. Please contact us if any emergency arises, and we will work with you to develop a plan for going forward.
