  • Smithsonian Summer Camp

    GCAC is proud to present Smithsonian Summer 2023 Virtual Adventures. Each camp runs in person (108 S. 2nd Street) from 12pm to 4pm with adventurers joining us virtually from 1pm - 3pm. The cost is $50 for GCAC members and $60 for nonmembers. Scholarships are available.

  • Informed Consent and Acknowledgement

    I hereby give my approval for my child’s participation in any and all activities prepared by Garrett County Arts Council during the selected camp. In exchange for the acceptance of said child’s candidacy by Garrett County Arts Council, I assume all risk and hazards incidental to the conduct of the activities, and release, absolve and hold harmless Garrett County Arts Council and all its respective officers, agents, and representatives from any and all liability for injuries to said child arising out of traveling to, participating in, or returning from selected camp sessions.

    In case of injury to said child, I hereby waive all claims against Garrett County Arts Council including all coaches and affiliates, all participants, sponsoring agencies, advertisers, and, if applicable, owners and lessors of premises used to conduct the event.

  • Medical Release and Authorization

    As Parent and/or Guardian of the named athlete, I hereby authorize the diagnosis and treatment by a qualified and licensed medical professional, of the minor child, in the event of a medical emergency, which in the opinion of the attending medical professional, requires immediate attention to prevent further endangerment of the minor’s life, physical disfigurement, physical impairment, or other undue pain, suffering or discomfort, if delayed.

     

    Permission is hereby granted to the attending physician to proceed with any medical or minor surgical treatment, x-ray examination and immunizations for the named athlete. In the event of an emergency arising out of serious illness, the need for major surgery, or significant accidental injury, I understand that every attempt will be made by the attending physician to contact me in the most expeditious way possible. This authorization is granted only after a reasonable effort has been made to reach me.

     

    Permission is also granted to the Garrett County Arts Council. and its affiliates including Directors, Teachers, and Youth Teaching Assistants to provide the needed emergency treatment prior to the child’s admission to the medical facility.

    Release authorized on the dates and/or duration of the registered season.

    This release is authorized and executed of my own free will, with the sole purpose of authorizing medical treatment under emergency circumstances, for the protection of life and limb of the named minor child, in my absence.

  • Photograph and Video Release

    I hereby grant permission to the rights of my child's image, likeness and sound of my child's voice as recorded on audio or video tape without payment or any other consideration. I understand that my child's image may be edited, copied, exhibited, published or distributed and waive the right to inspect or approve the finished product wherein this likeness appears. Additionally, I waive any right to royalties or other compensation arising or related to the use of my child's image or recording. I also understand that this material may be used in diverse educational settings within an unrestricted geographic area.

    Photographic, audio or video recordings may be used for the following purposes:

    • conference presentations
    • educational presentations or courses
    • informational presentations
    • on-line educational courses
    • educational videos

    By signing this release I understand this permission signifies that photographic or video recordings of me may be electronically displayed via the Internet or in the public educational setting.

    BY ACKNOWLEDGING AND SIGNING BELOW, I AM DELIVERING AN ELECTRONIC SIGNATURE THAT WILL HAVE THE SAME EFFECT AS AN ORIGINAL MANUAL PAPER SIGNATURE. THE ELECTRONIC SIGNATURE WILL BE EQUALLY AS BINDING AS AN ORIGINAL MANUAL PAPER SIGNATURE.

Adventurers set up a home studio as they use their imaginations to create many different types of art influenced by what they've seen.

    June 26th - 30th : Conservation HeroesIn Person: 12pm - 4pm Teachers: Caroline Blizzard & Angie Sincell Plant and animal species and ecosystems across the globe are endangered by human activity and climate changes- but there are scientists working to save them, including at the Smithsonian's National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute. Professionals from the field and an interactive online tour of conservation success stories inspire the Earth optimist within. Adventurers research endangered species, engineer solutions to habitat management issues, and develop a campaign to spread the word.

    July 3rd & 5th - 7th : Underwater WorldsIn Person: 12pm - 4pm Teachers: Kendra Rinard, Nicole Barkman, and Angie Sincell How can something that covers 71% of the Earth's surface be so vulnerable to damage by humans?Adventurers join leagues of scientists, including some from the Smithsonian, in efforts to keep the world's oceans healthy. They take on ocean exploration and study, marine preservation, and sustainability efforts with virtual visits to the Natural History Museum; conduct research on the Smithsonian's Ocean Portal; and participate in ocean cleanup challenges right from home.

    July 10th - 14th : Space Station SmithsonianIn Person: 12pm - 4pm Teachers: Chuck Trautwein & Angie Sincell Suit up and strap in to virtually experience a week as astronauts aboard the International Space Station. Adventurers encounter artifacts from historic missions during online visits to the air and space museum, the Udvar-Hazy Center, and NASAS's Goddard Space Flight Center. They read star charts, design and conduct experiments that have been (and could be) done aboard the ISS, build miniature satellites, and create space-inspired artworks.
