Locator and MAPT Testing
(1) Locator Placement Test: New Students Only
For first-time students, the Locator Placement Test information will be emailed to you once your registration form is processed. The email will contain links for a Reading test and a Math test.
The Locator tests are completed online using any tech device, such as a computer, laptop, tablet, or Smartphone.
After submitting your Locator tests, a staff member will contact you by email, text, or phone to schedule an appointment for the MAPT online test.
Contact us if you do not receive an email with Locator testing information after five school days from submitting your registration form. Check your spam/junk folders too. Our contact information is on our website. All emails will have 'Abisi Adult Education' in the subject line to make it easier for you to search.
(2) MAPT Testing: All Students
New students must complete the Locator tests first.
The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) requires ALL students enrolled in an HSE state-funded program to take the MAPT (Massachusetts Adult Proficiency Test).
These tests are administered when you first register for classes and again, up to 2 times, throughout the school year. The MAPT test is a tool DESE uses to show students are learning in our programs, develop new curricula, and establish funding to keep classes free for our students.
The Reading and Math MAPT tests are computer-based and help us give a baseline of what you know today.
The MAPT test is given by appointment only.
You can choose to take it in person or remotely from home.
A staff member will email or text you to schedule an appointment. Morning and evening appointments will be available. Check your spam/junk folder too.
