    PS 84 Garden Afterschool Workshops 2023-2024 Registration

    Kindergarten- 5th grade
  • Our workshops provide students of all ages with hands-on activities to learn about their role in nature.

    • Your child will learn to know and grow healthy and delicious fruits, veggies, and herbs in the garden!
    • Activities are rich in academic connections to science, social studies, math, language arts, nutrition, physical fitness, and creative arts!
    • We support social-emotional growth and team-building as students learn in a relaxed atmosphere with their peers and experienced educators.  
    • Students get snacks, homework time, the opportunity to assist in garden chores and build skills in teamwork, plant and insect ID, watering and caring for plants, self-control, patience, hardscaping, volunteerism, and so much more!                     
  • Rates

    • $25 per day per child
    • Payments can be made in installments
    • Limited Scholarships are available upon request

    We follow the Department of Education school year calendar. We are closed for school holidays, breaks and half-days.

    Fall Term- September 7 - February 2: 21 weeks
    Active Outdoor/Indoor Gardening
    Study our cultural and local connections to plants and place, compost and soil study, long-term Stem projects, seed starting, preserving food, market prep, technology-supported lessons, and putting the garden to bed.

     

    Closed:

    • Dec 25- Jan 1-Winter Break
    • Mondays- 9/25 (Yom Kippur), 10/9 (Indigenous People's Day/Italian Heritage Day),  1/15 (MLK Jr Day)
    • Tuesdays- 11/7 (election day)
    • Wednesdays---
    • Thursdays- 11/2 (Half Day), 11/23 (Thanksgiving Recess)
    • Fridays- 11/17 (Half Day), 11/24 (Thanksgiving Recess)

     


    Spring Term-February 5 - June 26: 18 weeks
    Active Outdoor/Indoor Gardening
    Waking up the garden, weather, and patterns of nature study, planting, insect study, harvest markets, complete long-term art/build projects.

    • Feb 19-23- Mid-Winter Break,
    • April 22-30-Spring Break
    • Mondays- 5/27 (Memorial Day), June 17 (Eid al-Adha), 4/1 (Easter weekend)
    • Tuesdays——
    • Wednesdays- 4/10 (Eid al-Fitr), 6/19 (Juneteenth)
    • Thursdays- 3/7 (Half Day), 6/6 (Chancellor's Day)
    • Fridays- 3/22 (Half Day), 3/29 (Good Friday), 6/7 (Clerical Day)

    School closings are already deducted from the enrollment weeks.
