There are many tax credits you may qualify for that our volunteers do not train on or receive certification to claim. You can try to prepare your return yourself using our Do-It-Yourself tax program (https://prepareandprosper.org/do-it-yourself-tax-prep/), but Prepare + Prosper volunteers cannot answer any tax questions about military income or credits.

    If you need assistance preparing your return, you can check the MN Revenue Free Tax Preparation Site Search Tool (https://www.revenue.state.mn.us/free-tax-preparation-sites) to find a different free tax site with military certification.

  • Unfortunately, Prepare + Prosper cannot do your tax return. Tax returns for international students in the US on a visa use tax topics our volunteers do not receive training or certificaiton on. However, there is another free tax service in the area called the NonResident Volunteer Tax Assistance Program (www.nrvtap.com) which helps international scholars.

    You could also contact the MN Society of Certified Public Accountants (www.mncpa.org) to find a CPA in your area with experience helping international scholars.

  • Unfortunately, your income exceeds our income guidelines and we do not have capacity to serve you at our in-person tax clinics. If your income was less than $73,000, you can try to prepare your return yourself using our Do-It-Yourself tax program (https://prepareandprosper.org/do-it-yourself-tax-prep/). We have guides, as well as volunteers and staff to answer most questions you might have.

    If you do not feel comfortable trying to do your own taxes, you can contact the MN Society of Certified Public Accountants (www.mncpa.org) to find a CPA in your area to do your taxes for you.

  • Prepare + Prosper can only amend tax returns covering the following tax years:

    • 2022
    • 2021
    • 2020
    • 2019
    • 2018
    • 2017

  • If Prepare + Prosper prepared the original tax return, you do not need an appointment and should call 651-262-2167.

  • You will need the original as-filed tax return and income documents for Prepare + Prosper to amend your return. You can order a copy of a tax return transcript from the IRS (https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript) and MN tax information from MN Revenue (https://www.revenue.state.mn.us/request-copies-previous-returns). Please wait to schedule until you have the necessary documents.

  • We're sorry, Prepare + Prosper cannot prepare tax returns for any of these professions.   • You are required to issue a Form 1099-NEC to any contractor you paid more than $600 in a year. This is done separately from your tax return. You can issue and file these forms using the IRS IRIS Portal here: https://www.irs.gov/filing/e-file-forms-1099-with-iris.
