    Please read the below prior to completing the booking form

  •  

    In 2024 all tickets for students booked in groups through schools (including school holiday program groups) for the weekday matinees listed in the Education & Learning Program are $20 per ticket.

    One (1) x free teacher / carer complimentary ticket will be allocated per 10 students and one teacher free per 10 students after that. Additional teachers / carers charged at $20 per person.

    Terms and conditions

    1. Bookings will only be accepted via this booking form or in writing on the Theatre Royal Booking Form,

    which can be emailed to Box Office.

    Please note, we are unable to take school bookings over the phone.

    2. Box Office will contact you approximately two weeks prior to the show to finalise numbers.

    3. We will make all efforts to accommodate additional students on the day, however this is not guaranteed.

    How to book

    1. Complete this online booking form - being sure to complete all of the required details about you, your

    school and your group.

    2. Submit the form - You'll then recieve an automated email confirming your booking. You will have the

    option to download a copy of this form from the confirmation email.

    3. Box Office will email you with confirmation of your booking once this has been processed.

    4. When you arrive for the performance, you will be asked to confirm your final numbers.

    5. An invoice will be sent to your school for final payment within 7 days following the performance

    (usually the day of the show, or 1 day after).

    Accessibility

    Entrance to the Theatre:

    Lift access is available from the main entrance on level one of The Hedberg building to all Theatre Royal and Studio Theatre foyers.

    Wheelchair Seating:

    The Theatre Royal and Studio Theatre have dedicated seating options for wheelchair users and their guests.

    There are accessible seating options for the Theatre Royal available in the Stalls and Dress Circle. The Studio Theatre has seating options in the Stalls.

The Assistive Hearing System offers amplified sound through dedicated headphones or by using a hearing loop that interacts with hearing aid devices.

    In 2024, we follow the tradition of providing a literary connection to our live shows, bringing you an Australian children’s classic with a wealth of associated educational resources. This show includes a post-show Q&A for up to 30 minutes, so stick around to hear more about the show from the creative team.  

  • Grug

  • Based on the much-loved picture book character created by Ted Prior. 

    Grug is an adventurous little chap – the top of a Burrawang tree who didn’t let a fall hold him back. Resembling a small, striped haystack, he has to navigate the world his own way, finding creative solutions to cabbage-eating snails and tricky dance moves. He makes plenty of new friends too, from a carpet snake to an echidna. 

    Grug is perfect for first time theatre goers and theatre loving families. Windmill Theatre Company’s charming, award-winning puppetry has seen the little tree-top-who-can perform to more than 50,000 children and families around the world.

    In 2024 we have something for everyone; some of the best comedy and improvisation skills from New Zealand, Tasmanian young adult literature, contemporary dance about contemporary issues and a new work that takes a unique look at who is welcome. Every show has a 30-minute post show Q&A planned with each show's creative teams, so stick around to ask the tough questions.

  • Five “French” performers meet you at the door. They bring you in, they show you to your seat. Then they start to tell a story – with you. 

    As a flip to 2023’s Women of Troy, the Theatre Royal is throwing a totally different spotlight on the Greek classic. This version is like a wild dress-up party, full of improvisation and interaction whilst re-telling the story of the tragic fall of Troy through theatrical magic, twisted pop songs and explosive wit. The most charming performers you can hope to meet play a revolving repertoire of outrageous characters. 

    Created and performed by A Slightly Isolated Dog, this New Zealand theatre company delivers a frantic and hilarious mash-up in the style of Monty Python meets The Mighty Boosh. Join them to explore hilarious parallels between war-torn ancient Greece and the chaos, confusion and absurdity of the present day.

  • On a sweltering day in January 1788, seven clan leaders gather on a sandstone escarpment overlooking the harbour. Beyond the friendly banter, protocols and hospitality, a momentous decision is waiting to be made. 

    A mysterious fleet of giant nawi is amassing in the harbour and as they creep closer, these seven representatives must choose unanimously: whether to send these strangers on their way or welcome them? 
     
    After its Sydney Theatre Award-winning premiere production at the 2020 Sydney Festival, Muruwari playwright Jane Harrison’s The Visitors is a brand-new production directed by Quandamooka man Wesley Enoch.

  • Harry and Miles' dad, an abalone diver, disappears with his grief into the deep waters of Tasmania’s wild south coast. The 15-year-old Miles is left to care for Harry, who’s just 10 years old. Soon, the bonds anchoring the family become frayed. 


    Adapted by playwright Julian Larnach from Favel Parrett’s award-winning debut novel and directed by Ben Winspear, Past the Shallows sees the roiling sea beyond the shoreline becoming a metaphor for the turmoil that accompanies incalculable loss. Together the family rides rogue waves of violent masculinity; and the tender swells of brotherhood that might just carry them home.

  • Body Body Commodity

  • A subversive commentary on the impacts that capitalist society and consumerist behaviours have on the female body.  

    Body Body Commodity is a visceral, visual, defiant and explicit demonstration of feminine fury and power. 

    In Tasdance and Jenni Large’s presentation of Body Body Commodity, five celebrated female dancers manipulate and interpret a mass of pastel foam objects, blurring the lines between object, body, power and product. The performers balance on the sharp, serrated line between humorous and harrowing, inviting the audience to connect with the confronting demands society and commerce demand of women’s bodies.
