Indiana's RSIG is intended to support students and their families with refugee status in Indiana schools through instruction, professional development, refugee-specific materials, technology, programming, assessment, and family involvement.
All Indiana public school districts and charter schools that generated an allocation are eligible to apply for RSIG funding. This grant cycle represents three separate funding streams. Below details what is being administered and how they were allocated:
- Standard Refugee School Impact Grant funding → Allocated based on eligible refugee student counts reported during the 23-24 school year. Each LEA received a $10,000 base allocation and a per-pupil amount ($181.07) for each eligible refugee reported.
- Additional Ukrainian Refugee School Impact Grant funding → Allocated to LEAs that previously received Ukrainian Refugee funding; they received the same proportionate share of the previous Ukrainian funding (based on count of eligible students reported).
- Additional Afghan Refugee School Impact Grant funding → Allocated to LEAs that previously received Afghan Refugee funding; they received the same proportionate share of the previous Afghan funding (based on count of eligible students reported).
LEAs may be eligible for one or multiple of the funding streams cited, depending on their reported eligible student population.
