The parishes provide instructional materials and a retreat for each child receiving a sacrament. Therefore, a small fee is charged to help cover the cost of these materials.
First Reconciliation and First Communion:
Parents may opt to instruct their children at home. Materials will be given to them when their child is in first grade and an assessment will be given to the child during second grade to determine readiness to receive the sacrament. Parents who wish to prepare at home must contact the parish priest or DRE to get materials and to take the assessment.
Parents who don't opt to instruct their children at home need to enroll them in the religious education classes beginning in first grade as instruction is integrated into the program.
An activity/retreat day is offered for each of the sacraments. It is expected that all children enrolled in the sacramental program and at least one parent to attend this activity day.
Confirmation:
Preparation is integrated into 7th - 11th grade instruction through the religious education program: therefore, youth need to be enrolled in religious education classes to be confirmed. The program will include instruction for all requirements and involve participation from parents and sponsors throughout the years. All confirmands are required to attend a Confirmation Retreat provided by the parish. Parents who wish to homeschool will need to reach out to the parish priest or DRE to receive materials . While some of the instruction can be at home, some of it is designed to be done in community.
