    Southwest Sydney Koala Project (including Lower Blue Mountains) – Koala Habitat Restoration
  • Eligibility

  • Eligibility will be considered based on a range of criteria, including: 

    • Presence of koala habitat on your property and/or 
    • Linkages to existing koala habitat adjacent to your property 
    • Landholder’s demonstrated commitment to conservation and natural resource management 
    • Landholder’s ability and willingness to maintain and monitor project sites 
    • Other considerations in the selection process include: 
       - Area and quality of koala habitat on the property 
       - Proximity of property to an area of high biodiversity value (e.g., wildlife              corridor) 
       - Sustainable long-term benefits (I.e., commitment to ongoing maintenance,        proximity to water and refugia) 
       - Value for money (e.g., cost per hectare restored) 
  • Further Information

    • Any proposed plantings to be funded must include at least 30% preferred koala tree species for the locality.
    • Requested funding must only be used to undertake the approved restoration activities.
    • Landholders will be expected to enter a management agreement for 10 years.
    • All projects must include in-kind or financial co-contribution/co-investment or both.
    • Projects will be subject to progress payments on meeting the outcomes specified in the management agreement.
    • Project details and data will be entered into the Habitat Restoration NSW online portal for reporting purposes.
    • Greater Sydney Landcare will provide technical advice and support in the project development.
    • Applications for this EOI are for the periods of 2023-2026, with the potential for additional applications for funding at later stages.
    • Projects must be completed before June 2026.
    • All projects will be assessed to determine if a known (registered) aboriginal site is located near the project site. If this is the case, a qualified consultant will complete an Aboriginal Due Diligence Report to ensure that the proposed restoration activities do not impact on Aboriginal Cultural Heritage.
  • Further guidelines regarding the eligibility of projects will be discussed following shortlisting of applications. Landholder/s will be invited to a meeting with project officers to provide additional details.
