We want worship to be simple and accessible. We want to lead people to sing to God
with a sincere heart. With that said there is a certain level of preparation, planning and practice that goes into making each and every worship service transparent. Because of this, there is a certain level of commitment that is required from the worship team. This commitment can take on many forms. Here are a few practical areas where a level of commitment is most evident:
• Be prepared. Practices run infinitely smoother when everyone has listened to the
scheduled music and practiced with it at least once. Being prepared also means having any gear or equipment that you intend to use on Sunday with you for practice (this includes any chord charts, lyric sheets, and/or sheet music that you might need)
• Be positive. It is much easier to work together when ideas or suggestions are presented and received with a good attitude.
• Be punctual. Everyone's time is valuable. It's important that everyone be punctual for practice so that we can use our limited time as efficiently as possible. While this should be the exception rather than the rule, when punctuality is impossible...
• Be flexible. Give grace just as you expect to receive grace (Luke 6:36). If there are any schedule changes, it is the worship leader's responsibility to notify you of the change. While it is not uncommon for these changes to take place, it is only done when necessary.
• Be modest. SCBC has no official "dress code." However in an effort to keep the focus on God and stray from being a distraction in worship or a stumbling block to others there are a few basic requirements. We encourage looking your best for the Lord while being modest without being legalistic. Shoulders, cleavage and the mid-section should be covered at all times. Skirts/dresses are allowed but should come down to below the knee and care should be taken that clothing is not too tight or form fitting. Any article of clothing with questionable text or graphics should not be worn. Again we want our congregation's focus to be on God which is why modesty is our policy. Should your choice of clothing not meet this standard, you will not be able to participate with the worship team until it has been resolved. This decision is up to the pastor or the worship leader.
• Be an example. As a member of SCBC's worship team you are a representative of SCBC and more importantly an ambassador of Christ and therefore you will need to conduct yourself properly outside of church just as you would inside the church. Practice Matthew 5:13-16, Romans 12:2, and 1 Corinthians 8:13 in your daily life.
Last and most importantly...
• Be a Christ follower. Our mission as a music ministry is not to be performers but to be
true worshippers and to lead people to biblically worship as they observe our example
of it.
