Northern Piedmont Community Foundation is is an established 501(c)(3) serving Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, and Rappahannock counties; our purpose is to transform the resources of our local citizens into real growth and strength for our community.
Across the country, community foundations like ours have created programs to give people real, hands-on experience with philanthropic giving; we are following their lead with our new Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) program. YIP brings together a group of 10th-12th grade students and provides them guidance, money, and mentorship to directly fund projects that are led by or actively involve youth, or which directly serve or benefit youth. Each grant cycle challenges these young people to demonstrate leadership, solve problems, study proposals, manage budgets, work together, and finally, present their views to an audience of peers and adults.
Who is Eligible?
Any 501(c)(3) project that resides or serves a majority in our four counties is eligible for program funding if it fulfills one of YIP’s three requirements. These three requirements are:
- Youth must be involved in the development of the program, or
- Youth must be involved in the execution of the program, or
- Youth must be served by the program.
“Youth” is defined as any school-aged person up to and including undergraduate students.
YIP will choose two finalist candidates from the pool of applicants, one of which will be awarded a grant of exactly $10,000.
