OUR MISSION is to inspire hope, health and the pursuit of happiness for all people.

Our Vision:

OUR VISION is to create a world-class, multi-sports complex designed to inspire a passion for achieving success through programs and exhibits that cultivate a positive mindset and a healthy lifestyle. This 15 acre state-of-the-art park will benefit our
community by providing a safe urban sanctuary that supports and encourages equitable and optimal physical and mental health for all people.

Access to the Optimism Oasis will be FREE to all New Hanover County public school students, members of The Boys & Girls Club of SENC and DREAMS, and D.C. Virgo students at designated times. All residents of the Northside community will be offered either a discounted rate or free membership to the Oasis.
Track of Optimism & Field of Dreams: New Hanover High School’s first official 400 meter/8 lane track open to the community & guests when not being used by the track team or by other paid running clubs and special events; One of the world's only tree-lined running tracks complete with motivational exhibits featuring African-American champions like Jesse Owens and Florence Griffith-Joyner and African-American quotes. (Track & Field includes: 400m Track & Field; 300’ Ninja Obstacle Course; Poetry in Motion Playground; Poetry Labyrinth Water Park (50 jets); No Fear Hemisphere Skateboard Park; True North Career Pathways Exhibit; Great Achievers Stage & Summit.)

Gym & Swim Center: an olympic pool; NHC Schools practice pool (site of FREE swim lessons to all children who attend NHC Schools and all BGCSENC members); 2500 bleacher seating capacity; an exercise pool (20’ x 36’); a kids play pool (20’ x 36’); therapeutic spa (20’ x 20’); six indoor basketball courts; 12 indoor volleyball courts; two tennis courts; ten pickleball courts; flex space for gymnastics, martial arts & yoga; healing arts & sports medicine clinic; fitness gym & cycling center; locker rooms.

Northside Arts & Culture Center: African-American cultural arts center (15,000 sf)w/ event space & restaurant; includes exhibits honoring the history of the Northside Community and celebrating African-American culture; rooftop park (30,000 sf) with shade trees, picnic tables & shade structures.

Great Achievers' Stage Amphitheater: 70’ circular stage & backstage amenities; 20’ x 40’ Jumbotron (track events & films); 15’ x 45’ sunken orchestra pit; state-of-the-art lighting & sound system; 400 seats + 1,100 overflow seating = 1,500 total for the purpose of outdoor education, theater, music, poetry, yoga, dance and much more. A venue similar to Greenfield Lake Amphitheater in Wilmington, NC available to everyone in the community and especially designed & built for the African American community; special seating at no charge reserved for residents of the Northside Community; extra large movie screen showing short motivational YouTube videos (5-10 minutes) during the day (ie: Oprah Winfrey, Martin Luther King, etc.) and inspirational movies at night (ie: Hidden Figures, etc.)

Great Achievers' Summit: Long ascending staircases on each side of Amphitheatre leading up to the Great Achievers Summit; a large open platform on top of the Dome where local, regional & national Great Achievers offer motivational presentations to NHC school kids and all Oasis visitors; staircases provide dramatic staging for award presentations post athletic competitions & events and the Summit would provide vistas for all athletic events.

Inspirational Exhibits throughout the Oasis: Exhibits will be on display throughout the Oasis featuring quotes and historical and present-day African-American figures addressing the power of Imagination; Innovation, Inspiration, and Motivation; Great Walls of 1 - Health & Wellness, 2 - Positive Reinforcement, and 3 - African-American Music & Art surrounding the track.
