    What is the U.S. Indo-Pacific Strategy Educational Toolkit?

     

    The US Indo-Pacific Strategy Educational Toolkit is a program to impart college and university students in the Hawai'i area with knowledge of the principles and aims of U.S. Indo-Pacific Policy through an online training toolkit created by The East-West Center in Washington D.C. (EWCW), funded and supported by the US Department of State. Students will gain in-depth knowledge of the US Indo-Pacific Strategy, build critical thinking, teamwork, and public speaking skills. The 6-week course is free of cost and will run from July 31st, 2023 (TBD) to Septmber 8th, 2023 (TBD).

    Who runs the course?

     

    The course, developed by the EWCW, will be run by two Facilitators based in Hawai'i. 

     

    Eligibility:

     

    1. Applicants must be enrolled (either full-time or part-time) undergraduate or graduate students at colleges/universities in Hawai'i.
    2. Applicants, if selected, must be willing and able to attend one virtual meeting per week, for the duration of the 6-week course. The virtual meeting will be between 60-90 minutes, on Thursday or Friday of each week, from 5pm onwards.
    3. Applicants must also attend the US Indo-Pacific Strategy conference on July 26th, 2023 (virtually).
    4. Applicants must adhere and agree to all the “Terms and Conditions” at the end of this application.
    5. No prior experience or knowledge of the Indo-Pacific region is required. However, an interest and curiosity in learning more about the Indo-Pacific region is a requirement.
    6. The program does not give preference to any major or minor over another. Students from all disciplines and academic backgrounds are welcome and encouraged to apply.

    2. Decisions on complete applications will be communicated to students no later than July 15th, 2023.

    If selected, I agree to fully participate in the US Indo-Pacific Strategy program sponsored by the East-West Center and the U.S. Department of State in its entirety from March 2023 to April 2023.

    In so doing so, I will be responsive to communications with and directives from the East-West Center, my Facilitator, and the U.S. Department of State through the duration of the program. As a participant in this program, in good faith, I will attend each session and closely review and follow the guidelines and procedures outlined on the U.S. Indo-Pacific Strategy website.

    In addition, an individual accepting an invitation to participate in an East-West Center program accepts a role of active international involvement in the East-West Center mandate of promoting better relations and understanding among the nations and people of Asia, the Pacific area, and the United States. Each participant is expected to help evaluate his or her involvement in the East-West Center program.

    Once active EWC participation has ended, your participant information may be used in various annual reports, as well as made available to the EWC Foundation and Office of Alumni Engagement as part of EWC communications and outreach to alumni of EWC programs.

    All participants are expected to review and adhere to the East-West Center’s Participant Policies (ewcparticipantinfo.org/participant-policies/), including the Participant Code of Conduct and Online Code of Conduct, Sexual Misconduct Policies (eastwestcenter.org/title-ix), and any other program standards, regulations, and expectations set by the East-West Center. Failure to follow these policies may result in dismissal from the program.
