  • Lassen After School Program Disciplinary Action Plan

    CITIZENSHIP

All children are expected to display good citizenship while attending the Lassen Expanded Learning Program and must have enough maturity not to wander off or leave the site without permission. They must also be able to work cooperatively in a large group setting. We are a “Hands Off” program. Any child who abuses anyone or anything will be subject to immediate disciplinary action, as determined by the Program Leader or Site Coordinator, with coordination of the Program Director.

Discipline is typically in the following order: The program uses discussion, redirection, and “time-out” as a means of discipline for inappropriate behaviors. If a behavior escalates, continues, or is beyond using these methods, one of the following two reports will be used to document and address the behavior based on the type and severity of the incident.

Warning Reports: A Warning Report is issued to a child and parent/guardian as a written notification that there is either an ongoing behavior problem, or that an incident occurred that a Program staff member deems necessary to formally discuss with a parent/guardian.

    1. When a staff member fills out a Warning Report, you and your child will be asked to sign it.
    2. There are no program consequences for an individual Warning Report.
    3. Copies of the Warning Reports are kept at both the actual site and the Lassen County Office of Education program office.

Behavior Reports: A Behavior Report is issued when a behavior has occurred that has either been a continual problem that has not been resolved through other methods of discipline or a single behavior that is severe or unacceptable.

    1. When a leader fills out a Behavior Report, you and your child will be asked to sign it.
    2. Upon receipt of a third Behavior Report, the child will be suspended from the program for the following program day, with coordination of the Program Director. A meeting will be set-up with the Site Coordinator, Parents/Guardians, and Program Director.
    3. Upon receipt of the fourth Behavior Report, the child will be suspended for the period of five days, with coordination of the Program Director.
    4. Upon receipt of the 5th Behavior Report, the child may not attend the program for one month, with coordination of the Program Director.
    5. After one month has passed, a meeting will be held with the Site Coordinator, Program Director, and Parent/Guardians to discuss the re-admittance and to create an action plan. If the action plan does not work we will have to exit the child for the remainder of the program year.
    6. Copies of these reports are kept at the site and the Lassen County Office of Education program office.

Notwithstanding the above discipline policy, program staff reserves the right to immediately call the parents/guardians and remove a participant from the program for the remainder of the day, and/or suspend a participant at any time, with coordination of the Program Director, for the following reasons:

    1. Non-Cooperation
    2. Physical or verbal abuse of another child or leader.
    3. Possession of a weapon on school premises or while under the care of the ASES program.
    4. Any conduct that is a threat to the health, safety, or welfare of the staff or other program participants.
    5. Lack of cooperation by parents/guardians.
    6. Continual late pick-ups.

    Please Note:

    1. At any time, a parent has the option to request a conference with the Program Site Facilitator and the Program Director.
    2. A parent’s/guardian’s refusal to sign a warning or behavior report does not negate the validity of the report.
    3. Children who are suspended from school will not be accepted at any Lassen Expanded Learning Program during the time of their suspension.
  • Anophylaxis Treatment Annual Notification to Parents

California Education Code 49414 authorizes school distrfcts to provide epinephrine auto injectors to trained personnel to use to provide emergency medical aid to persons suffering from an anaphylactic reaction.

Anaphylaxiis is a rapid, severe allergic response triggered by insect stings, foods, medications, latex materials, exercise, or in rare cases by unknown causes. This is a life threatening allergic condition, requiring immediate treatment.

Administering epinephrine to students during a medical emergency may help to insure the student's health and safety at school. Therefore, the Lassen
County Office of Education has adopted a policy for standing orders to provide life-saving epinephrine to students who are in need of such treatment.

This policy states that a credentialed, licensed school nurse or trained, unlicensed school staff, under the direct or indirect supervision of the credentialed school nurse (or supervisor of health), may administer epinephrine in the form of an epinephrine auto-injector during a severe,
life-threatening allergic reaction. The epinephrine auto-injector rapidly delivers a pre-measured, sterile, single dose of epinephrine by direct injection through the skin.

  • Parent/Guardian Statement of Consent for Use of Epinephrine Auto-injector

Each day staff will provide homework assistance, academic tutoring, educational games, moderate to vigorous physical activity, a nutritional snack, and enrichment activities. Enrichment activities are an integral part of the program, where many of the California standards are taught using hands-on and discovery activities.  Students are enrolled in the Expanded learning Program using a lottery model.

    DAILY PROGRAM COMPONENTS

The daily program components in our expanded learning programs are:

    • Academic Support such as homework  support, reading activities, math games, etc...
    • Enrichment activities that support regular day learning.

    DISCIPLINE

The Lassen Expanded learning Program uses a positive approach to discipline when the stated rules are broken.  Behavior problems are recorded, and plans for corrective action are noted.  Parent(s)/Guardian(s) will be notified if an inappropriate behavior persists.  If a child continually misbehaves, the Program Leader will seek the support of the Parent(s)/Guardian(s), Program Liaison, school site administrator, and Program Manager.

If children act in a way that creates risk of harm and/or health to themselves or anyone else, the Program Leader to which the student is assigned will call the Parent(s)/ Guardian(s) asking for an immediate pickup.

The complete disciplinary action steps can be found in the Lassen Expanded Learning Disciplinary Action Plan has been provided during this registration process and can be found on the program Website at www.lassenafterschool.org.

Program participants will receive a snack each afternoon.  This snack will include two of the four basic food groups.   Accomodations for allergies are available upon completion of appropriate paperwork

    ATTENDANCE

Students should strive to attend every day. Students are encouraged to stay for the entire duration of the program each day, However, it is understood that students attend a parallel program (programs in the school or community centers such as sports, cheerleading, dance, scouts, etc...).

Family emergencies, medical appointments, custody orders, or child accidents that occur during the program time and other conditions agreed upon by the administration are the only excused absences.  Whenever possible, please let us know if your child will not be attending the program on his/her regularly scheduled days.  This allows us to keep the appropriate staff to student ratio of 1 to 20. If your child has an excused absence, please submit a note of why he/she was absent.

Three or more unexcused absences are grounds for dismissal from the program and will be reviewed by the Program Director.

    EARLY RELEASE POLICY

Students enrolled in the Lassen Expanded learning Program are required to be in attendance for the entire program time each day unless they have an early release form on file.  As per State of California’s ASES Program policies, each student who needs an early release from the program must have an early release form filled out and on file.  Early release is determined on a case-by-case basis and must be justified.
