New Brunswick Alumni Kappa League (NBA KL)

THE PROGRAM

The New Brunswick Alumni Kappa League (NBAKL) program is a mentoring program formed under the Guide Right Program of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. NBAKL was formed in 2003. Our goals are:

1. To help youth in selection of courses leading to vocations compatible with their aptitudes and personalities.

2. To help students identify and pursue their goals to the highest level.

3. To challenge students weakneeses and develop into well rounded young men.

4. To provide students with forum of male mentors of business professionals and college students who can help guide them along life's journey.

5. To afford young men of color an opportunity for growth and mature through sponsored entertainment and cultural enrichment.

6. To provide networks for students to pursue educational and vocational opportunities.

Since its inception, over 400 students have been inducted into the program. Students have completed the program and matriculated to colleges/universities such as Rutgers University, Morehouse College, United States Naval Academy, United States Air Force Academy, Rowan University, Brown University, UNC-Chapel Hill, Hampton University, Georgia State University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Howard University, Texas A&M and many others notable institutions. We have also had graduates join the United States Navy and the United States Army. Our overall goal is to help each young man develop their talents to pursue and reach their career goals. It is not purely to have each student go to college, particularly if that is not their goal.

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

The New Brunswick Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. is pleased that you have decided to apply for membership into the NBA Kappa League. The program requires all applicants to submit a complete membership package.

Membership Qualifications

Must be willing to attend monthly meetings, community service activities and workshops
Be a male student of color (African American or Latino) between 6th – 12th grade
Complete an interview with the committee

HOW TO APPLY:

1. Complete the application.

2. Provide a copy of your (final) 2024‐25 report card preferably with all four marking periods (or the equivalent) listed or high school/middle school transcript

3. (RISING JUNIORS AND SENIORS) Provide a copy of your resume.

4. New members remit application fee ($200 - covers customized Kappa League cardiagn sweater, KL bow tie and KL polo)

5. Returning members remit application fee ($100 - cover Kappa League polo or T-shirt)

5. (NEW MEMBERS ONLY) Attach a recent picture of yourself.

6. Application deadline: Friday, August 15, 2025

7. Candidate interviews are tentatively scheduled for Saturday, September 13, 2025.

(For returning members only.) Do you want a KL polo or KL T-shirt? If you do not have a polo, or have outgrown your polo, then polo should be your answer. If there is a new polo shirt design, then all Kappa Leaguers will get the polo.
