Stanley O. McNaughton (1921-1998) began his career at PEMCO in 1961, serving as general manager until 1970, when he was named president. He became CEO in 1984 guiding the organization through a period of growth and innovation. Stanley O was a “people person” and was recognize throughout his career for his caring, compassionate deeds—a legacy that proudly continues to this day.
Part of that giving was establishing a WSSR-Foundation scholarship for high school seniors interested in a teaching career. Today the Robert J. Handy Scholarship is awarded to eight deserving graduates who qualify for $900 in each of their four undergraduate years.
Stan’s values that he instilled in PEMCO resonate today. For example, he often said “there is no right way to do the wrong thing”; and “If you see someone without a smile, give him yours.”
