How did you hear about this scholarship?

Please check that you satisfy all the eligibility criteria for this scholarship:

I am a non-Japanese, non-permanent resident woman.

(2)*

I will be enrolled in a PhD degree program in a graduate school of a Japanese university during the entire scholarship period of April 2024 to March 2025.

I reside in Japan during the application period October 2023 through April 2024.

(4)*

I did not have any education in Japan prior to a bachelor’s degree (not including short-term language study)..

(5)*

I will not hold scholarships greater than ¥1.5 million from any other scholarship program for the duration of the CWAJ Scholarship. Financial aid and awards from the university where the applicant will study may not be subject to this limitation.

I have not received a CWAJ award in the past, and am not a CWAJ Member.

Timeline

July 2023	Form A – Registration for Application ID Number on website Links to the Application Forms will be available after registering for an Application ID Number.
Starting Monday, September 25, 2023 9:00 JST	Payment of ¥2,000 application fee by bank transfer may be made from this date. Note: Do not make bank transfer of the application fee before September 25, 2023.
Monday, October 9, 2023, 23:59 JST	Deadline: Applications with required documents and references must be submitted online by the deadline.
February 2024	Finalist Interviews – usually held on a weekend
March 2024	Notification of recipients

Application Requirements

You will be required to submit: an application essay, your education transcripts, certificate of university enrolment or proof of acceptance to your degree program, two letters of recommendations, a copy of your residence card, and a ¥2,000 application processing fee. All materials are to be submitted in English. All personal material will be deleted at the end of the scholarship process.

Please note:
- No applicants will be accepted when applying from abroad.
- No documents will be returned.
- Additional material not requested will be disregarded.

Finalists will be interviewed online or in person in Tokyo. Candidates should plan to be available during the month when interviews are being held (likely February) and will be notified at least two weeks in advance if they have been selected for an interview. Applicants will be notified of the results by email.

CWAJ reserves the right to make its own selections and does not discuss any of its decisions. CWAJ’s methods, rankings and judgments are proprietary and totally confidential. CWAJ does not enter into any discussion of its decisions.
