  • Rainforest Alliance Sustainability Investment Plan Template

    Version July 5, 2023
  • As indicated in the 2020 Sustainable Agriculture Standard: farm requirements, requirement 3.3.1, farm certificate holders must fill in the Sustainability Investment Plan Template.

Tea farm certificate holders must fill in this form and not the Excel template Annex S16, in line with the Policy on the Use of Annex S16 for the Tea Sector.

In this form you must record the investments you needed to make to attain or maintain compliance with the RA2020 certification standard. You must fill in the form before the harvest for seasonal crops, or before your audit for continuous crops. It is best to fill it in after doing your internal inspections and self-assessment.

Before you start, have these documents at hand, if applicable:

    • Management plan (including the results of your Management Capacity Assessment and Risk Assessment)
    • Audit reports from previous years
    • Internal inspections and self-assessments
  • INSTRUCTIONS

    • Record in this form the investments you needed to make to comply with the 2020 Sustainable Agriculture Standard: Farm Requirements. Investments include any goods or services purchased to comply with the standard. Examples: purchase of seedlings for tree planting to increase tree cover, construction of additional toilets for workers, costs for hiring internal trainers, costs for the audit, protective equipments, etc..

    • Complete all the fields in the form. At the bottom of the form, you can see the calculated results in grey cells.

    • Existing certificate holders: record investments made in the past year of your certification. Prospective certificate holders: record investments made in the year before your first certification audit.

    • Make sure you include the cost of each investment in the same currency selected at the beginning of the form. If investments were made in other currencies, you will need to convert these to your selected currency.

  • IMPORTANT NOTE:

    • Please only include monetary (i.e., not in-kind) investments.
    • Only include activities that require an additional economic investment by the farm Certificate Holder to comply with any of the requirements of the Rainforest Alliance 2020 Standard. Normal operating costs for activities that are not related to certification (e.g., costs of conventional agricultural production, transport of the crop from a farm to a processing plant etc.) should NOT be included in the Sustainability Investments plan.
    • Only include investments that were made with the farm certificate holder’s own resources. Any investments made with financial or in-kind donations received from third parties (e.g., from government, non-governmental organizations, partners, or projects) to implement standard activities should NOT be included.
