    • Award Category Descriptions 
      1. Best Project addressing Health Inequalities: A project that has identified that certain patient groups are not getting equivalent health care and has taken steps to improve delivery of care to that group. It demonstrates an understanding of how health inequalities come about, has worked to understand some of the barriers that the group experiences and produced an effective action plan that addresses the issues.
      2. Best Social Impact: Recognises the purpose of social value, identifies how benefits can be achieved, implements a plan that realises social value. Makes it part of the ethos of the organisation.
      3. Best Innovation: New or re-purposed current technology or service design, that is solving a problem in a more effective way, improving patient care, making services more cost effective, enabling teams to work well together, enabling a service to run better, connecting services making communication work better.
      4. Best Partnership:  Worked together as a productive partnership benefiting patient care, developed an effective and productive relationship, demonstrated the benefits of working with others as an exemplar, provided opportunities for learning from each other.
      5. Best Patient Engagement: Recognises the benefits of working with patients to understand how services are delivering and should deliver. Takes account of the views of patients and makes changes to meet patient needs.  Receives commendations from patients.
      6. Best Quality and Safety Initiative: Demonstrates a change in safety and/or quality systems that delivered improvement. The change would have been justified by evi-dence that previous systems may not have been optimised and shown to be effective by some form of audit/analysis that demonstrated the improvement.
