The Back Country Horsemen of the Virginia Highlands are seeking volunteers to assist on a trail rehab project on the Virginia Highlands Horse Trail, a multi-use trail in the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area between Hwy 21 in Wythe County and Hale Lake Road in Smyth County. This section of the Virginia High;ands Horse Trail is a multi-use trail serving Equestrians, hikers, mountain bikers and seasonal motorcycle use. This project is made possible by a Legacy Trails Grant administered by American Trails. Please use this form to volunteer to help us on this project. Whether you are an equestrian, hiker or biker we could use your help! We will feed you lunch and keep you hydrated!

Here is a rough schedule, things may change based on work accomplishments. Please remain flexible.

Work Day Description- 9/11- 13/2023- Hauling rock with UTVs to ACC Crew, If you have a UTV with a hydrolic dump bed that you can bring please indicate in the comments section.

9/14-19/2023 Trail Tread Work, raking, Drainage.

9/19/2023- Wrap up, Clean up, equipment transport, tool & equpment cleaning

Please pick the day (s) you are interested plus an alternate day in case the crew is full.

Shifts will be AM- 8:30 - 12:30, PM- 12:30- 4:30. (Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to shift time for tailgate safety session)

Volunteers will have to be transported to work site which may be several miles down the trail so please be on time.

There will be jobs for all levels of physical ability, come join us and be a part of it!!
